Offset Stroker - any disadvantages?
I'm intrigued by TSP's offset strokers. Sounds like a cost effective way to get more cubes. So what's the catch?
Is there any disadvantage to an offset stroker? Balance or Vibration issues or anything?

Re: Offset Stroker - any disadvantages?
I spoke to Trevor at TSP and Allan at Futrals who really know their way around these offset strokers and I will go that route in the future.I know TSP has been running good size shots of NOS thru the offset and cant seem to break the crank.
My understanding is if the crank is cut correct it has little impact on it's strength, time will tell.

Re: Offset Stroker - any disadvantages?
the downsided to this are basically just avaliability of the rods, and bearings. some go down to a 2.0 rod and bearing which is the same size as was used in some SBC's and some extreme cases the rod end goes to a 1.88" bearing size, and only carillo (to my knowledge) is making rods for them. the bearings become a bit harder to come by than just a trip down to napa. i very seriously considered doing this to my motor, and i'd still like to, but not w/o some extra parts just to have laying around. just my 2 cents.

You cant buy just the crank. They sell it with Carillo rods pistons, and bearings i believe for $2100. Someone correct me if im wrong
$2100 for a offset ground stock crank with a 3.82 stroke that is worth ~19 CID, make a 346 into a ~365 or ~$110 per CID gained
vs
$3500 for a Lunati forged crank with a 4.00 stroke that's worth ~36 CID, make a 346 into a ~382 or $97 per CID gained
The offset crank would be pretty sweet with a big bore. One would already be in for the rods and pistons in that case, so whats a few more hundred for an offset ground crank?

4.08 bore x 3.82 offset ground crank equals (roughly) 400ci t/a
this would be the way id go if i went bigger cubes, if i werent poor

Actually thats a set of patriot heads. Throw in another $1.5K for a cam and some full roller rockers and an intake (if you don't already have one) and you'll have a beast on your hands.
