my car sounds like a supercharger
but there isn't one... so i ruled out everything, basically by eventually taking off all belts and running the car at idle for about 2 seconds, and my crankshaft was the only thing spinning and the loud whining noise was still going. what the heck?
the other possibility is a vacuum leak. i don't even drive the car that much...
can i do the re-greasing of the crank shaft like the one in this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...grease+pulleys
i already did the idle pulley and AC pulley thinking those were the culprit, but, well, NOPE!
please help me figure out what this is. what do you guys think? thank you.

did you take the ac belt off as well as the serp belt? If not Its likely the idler or tensioner for the ac compressor belt.
ohh i read you swapped that already, nevermind what part of the engine is the noise comming from? internal noise? does the sound come from the flywheel area? the starter stuck out onto the flywheel?

unbelievably enough, in my searching i found this thread, and it had a youtube link to it. the youtube link shows an f-body with exactly the same noise as mine, and i mean exact. turned out his a/c idler pulley was bad, but again, i took off both belts and ran the car and the only thing spinning was the crank shaft and it still sounded like this.
when he gets his camera to the right side of the engine it gets higher-pitched and louder...mine does the exact same thing.

well it sounds like it's coming from the TB/intake area, so i think vacuum leak. how would i check for one?
really no one has ever had a similar problem? i guess the timing chain is possible, but with only 60k miles on the car, timing chain seems awfully bizarre now.

did the ses light come on?
does it idle high?
that video sounds like a whistle type noise also, if thats what your hearing.
I've found a plastic bag that got sucked up by the air filter before that had a similar sound to it, the air rushing past would whistle (not on an ls1 but same noise)

well i found it! it was a vacuum leak. the little piece of rubber hosing that connects the TB to the PCV valve had a hole in it. actually i felt quite dumb when i saw it. i was listening for the noise and had my ear up to the TB area on the right side and was like, "god, it sounds like it's really coming from RIGHT here, wait.........oh ****, i'm an idiot!" lol. i put my finger over it and the noise went away immediately.
i went to a-zone and got some rubber hosing that was almost the exact same diameter and cut a 3 inch piece and picked up a new PCV valve while i was at it (looks like the old one was leaking). sounds as good as new! glad it wasn't anything serious or seriously difficult to diagnose/fix. thanks for all the help!
