If you're one of the lucky 6,400 customers to lay claim to the 425 hp Dodge Challenger SRT8 (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/30/autoline-on-autoblog-with-john-mcelroy-driving-the-dodge-challe/), we have good news. The first 1,000 special edition Challengers have already been built, and they're en-route to a dealer near you. For those of you that won't be getting your Hemi-powered muscle car in the first wave, you won't have to wait long, either. Every SRT Challenger will be produced by the beginning of July, which means Woodward should be full of good-looking retro coupes come August. If you want a 6.1L Challenger, you're going to have to hit eBay or wait for 2009, because all 2008 models have been spoken for.
The Challenger has been one of the few pieces of good news surrounding the Pentastar of late, and a hot product couldn't be coming at a better time. We know gas if $4 per gallon and V8 muscle cars aren't exactly what the doctor ordered, but we're probably just as excited as the 6,400 Challenger SRT8 owners to get behind the wheel of this future classic.

It would be even better to be beating them on the road, cuz they paid a huge premium to get them that early.
Imagine, 45k-50k brand new SRT-8 Challanger, and you get smashed by a 15k F-body. :D:D:D

Ive already seen several on the road unmasked. But that was a couple months ago. I saw a black srt8, and a silver srt8 challenger driving with a red srt8, and black srt8 chargers down i5-North while I was going S, and then another silver srt8 challenger on roscoe, and lankershim. Gorgeous cars in person.

I can't wait to ruin their days(as well as any other higher priced 'muscle' car). They're going to ask what the whistle noise is under the hood and I'm going to tell them is a vaccum leak. :secret2:

Hey wait, it has the AutoStick (manual override)...:emb:
I read awhile ago they had a stripped down track model that was 6-800 pounds lighter. I'll find the link.

it's pretty sad, according to howstuffworks.com the 1970 dodge challenger convertible weight in at 3700 lbs! hahaha this means this car is heavier!
1970 dodge challenger convertible: 3700 lbs
1970 pontiac firebird transam: 3800 lbs
1970 ford mustang: 2800-3200 lbs WOW! mustangs were light back in the day

I totally agree.
On a side note, the two Saleen versions of the 5.7L Challenger are to be street legal, supercharged, and 500 and 700hp.

you know the gt500 lost in a test to the challenger, even tho the mustang was faster, handled better, and stopped better. The challenger won because it was "better sorted" what ever the fuck that means, o yeah and it was like 5k cheaper. (motor trend test btw)

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. I wanna know if it'll also be put on a diet, or are they going to add another few hundred pounds and make it 4500lbs.... and 700hp.

yeah maybe they'll get into the 12s with that hp, the car looks good but thats about it, the performance/price ratio is medeocure at best.
