Well i want to put together a single Turbo in my 98 WS6. I want to piece it myself and do some custom work and set up. I want to keep the a/c and want to make aroung 600hp at the wheel. Its not DD, but will see some highway and 1/4 racing. I was think of buying a 3in intercooler, and the ebay headers and piping. I want a good turbo. What are some things that i'll need. like blowoff valve, oil lines, and clamps..etc..

Let me know how much $$ i'll send at the end and if its worth going that route, or instead buying APS system.. thanks!

and also whats the max hp i can make with a ls1 with boost?

go to a turbo providers web site and look at the parts list. Honestly, unless you're a metal working stud and very mechanically inclined you won't be able to make a kit as nice as the APS kit and it will even cost more most likely because you'll have to fix your mistakes.

It will cost you more to do it yourself. The shops and manufacturers get things alot cheaper than you can get them for most likely. But if you want to do then by all means! Are you planning on tuning it yourself too? Probably looking at $1500 - $2000 more to do it yourself if you don't have to fix to many things.

I'm going on a year now, but have taken my time to plan parts out before ordering them. I have less than $50 in mistakes and only have the downpipe left to weld up. I have about $2000-$2500 in parts for the actual kit but have done all the work myself. It's much easier to just buy a kit, bolt it on, and GO!

what are some common mistake people make? tuning will be done by a friend with hp tuners. and im a good do it yourselfer guy. i did my cam, clutch, diff, nitrous, suspension work, bolt ons and never have any problems. i'll do alot of research and reading before i start buying or working on it.

I would consider a bmr turbo K-member to help with routing a DP. I wish I had done this during the motor swap. When you get ready to run the piping plan where everythings is going to be when it is done. It's a very tight fit in there. Good luck to you.

i agree, i started last march of 07, taking my time, bought some parts to save time because i didnt have a tool to make the part myself, tool was more then the part. i have 2600 in the turbo parts not including any piping, 650 in piping and 150 in intercooler, i didnt buy any cheap parts, got the turbo k member. id say 1200 bucks for a fuel system and injectors with tuning on top of that. plus i still need a radiator 200.00, electric fans 150.00, it adds up fast.

I think you can do it cheaper then buying if you have the tools.

It has hundreds of pictures of just about everything we did to my car. It has it broken up by day, we worked on my car 1 day a week, and you can see what was made.

We took stuff off in nov/dec.

Started fab 1-4-08 and the car was running 3-15-08

We were not in any hurry, and had the car tuned, and fixed loose ends early march. So far the car has made just under 500hp@ 6psi but we didn't up boost anymore because of valve float.

Without tools, Buying a 1200 dollar turbo, tial 44 gate, tial 50 bov, 60# injectors, pipe, Ic, Silicone lines, fuel pump, radiator, fans, tune i was under 5,000 dollars.

For 600 hp you can do 60# injectors, and a single walbro 255, but id probably run 2.

you can buy the OFI hotparts and keep everything in stock location and run big numbers, if i had to do it again that's the way i would have went, it just takes to long to buy all these little things hving to run around town and stuff like that. but the gratification of poppin the hood and seeing your own work is worth it. i stopped counting how much it would cost at about 6k, it just makes you woozy knowing that money could have went to something else lol like a truck! lol
