Heads for TR224 112LSA and possibly a bigger cam in the future....
Ok, So I am curious which budget heads will work best for me. I currently have the TR224 .563/.563 112LSA cam, I want to see how heads change the car and I might just stick with the TR224 heads if I'm satisfied. If not I have plans to put in a 236/238 cam.
I am looking at both the PRC (5.3l stg 2.5s)and Patriot heads. I found a good deal on a set of Patriot Stage 1 ls6 heads, would those be any good? Also curious on if I should have them milled at all? I know if I stayed with the TR224 I would probably want to get them milled to 59cc, but I also want to leave room for a bigger cam if I decide to swap, so I 'm curious what cc would be the best. Any opinions would be helpful...Also, what injectors? Or still use stockers?
I hit 370rwhp/361rwtq on a mustang dyno. Looking to clip over 400rwhp/380rwtq on the same dyno...or get to be around 425whp on a dyno jet...

I have the same cam and with my CNC ported heads from Thunder Racing I was right at 400 hp and 386 TQ......
The heads have been milled to 63CC but I am thinking about going to a 408...I am getting them flowed right now to find the exact specs...PM me if your interested in them.

425rwhp will probably not happen with the 224 cam no matter what heads you get.
i would personally look into some of the small runner heads like the terminator 200s or the AFR 205s.
you'll keep torque up with the small runner, and if you mill them down you make good power.
making a jump THAT big to the cam you listed is gonna take some research. how much lift the cam has will affect what heads you can put on now. and if you can't get the heads dialed in for the 224 cam because you figured in a bigger cam...your results will suffer.
i say stick with the 224. put some small runner heads with good compression on. and if you want a bit more power..you can always get a ported FAST

THAT however, I totally agree with.

Yeah I have seen it happen. Cam only I'm at 390...those heads are usually good for 30-40whp. There is a guy running decent heads on a 224 making 450whp...so I think it all just depends on the setup. 224 is small but makes good numbers...

yeah it happens...but i would say its the exception...not the rule.
its discussions like this that make people disappointed when they spend $3000 on h/c and are 25hp from what they expected.
not saying you are wrong, just stating my opinion.

I would vote for the 5.3L heads from PRC, they work well for me; the LS6 ones outflow them a bit, but not by too much; I'd say don't mill them in case you decide you DO want to go with a bigger cam, but from what I've heard about the 224, you'll probably like to stick with that and its great under-curve numbers

I'm the living example of falling for the exception. I dropped some $$$ on budget heads and I came up way short of the numbers I was shooting for. Could have to do with the tune, but not 100% sure. Either way, I could have saved the $$$ dropped on the budget heads and went with a larger cam only set-up and make the same power. Mine's a DD, so the thought of heads+smaller cam to accomplish my goals made sense at the time. Now, not so sure. Either way, I could have saved that $$$ and put it towards the ported 92/92 that I have on the way. Not to mention all the other mods I need to get the power to the ground. (rear-end, suspension, etc.)
Good luck with your decision.
