Hydrolock/Warraty Issue??
I recently drove through a big puddle of water and from the information that I have gathered from BIGBOS on the forum here. I might have hydrolocked the engine. Was wondering the best way to present this to the dealer in order for me to get this fixed. I will be asleep and wont check this message till tommorrow so if you can send me a pm and ill get back with you guys ASAP. Thanks I miss her already.

Yes, warranty is to cover manufacturers defects, not acts of nature etc. This would be an insurance claim.
Do you have a "ram air" kit, or cut the lower airbox?

Like the others have already iterated...Warranty will not cover it, but your insurance will. This is actually a good thing though, since you can choose what goes back in (Hint: Forged internal motor) and who does the work (hint: Good performance shop).

I do work on the side and just went through this with a customer. Insurance covered it at 75% of cost. We played around with the cost of some items slightly (within reason)to help him out. He eventually got $6900 for the new motor and labor to do the swap. We added a few things during the swap that were found while the project was in work. Like the MAF, MAP sensor, all fluids, plugs,gaskets and any other things you can nickel and dime your insurance company for. We got a few hundred more for those items. He then called up PACE performance and ordered a 2001 Z06 motor for $4600 and dropped it in. He broke just about even on the whole deal and ended up with a 0 mile 01 Z06 motor with a very good warranty on the motor and a new Z06 clutch. I think it was a 30 month/36k mile warranty or someting of that nature. His car is an 01 and currently out of warranty...so thats a little piece of mind.
The key is to NOT go to a dealership. If you do that the insurance company will just deal with the dealership and pay them directly. You will then have to pay the difference. Im my case it would have been the extra 25%. Maybe $1500-2000
Get with a good shop that will work with you a little. Be prepared to do all the legwork for locating parts. And tell this to the insurance adjuster up front. Total down time for this project was 5 weeks.

Went thru this whole nightmare myself with my brand new Formula 350 back in 1989, best thing I did was go to the local speed shop first!
They took damn good care of me, even said if I helped do the dirty work like yanking the old motor they would bury the extra costs associated with building the new motor!
I do believe the hydrolock was considered "ACT OF GOD DAMAGE" by the insurance company, kinda like floods, hailstone, and tornado damage!

So how do I get the insurance company to go with the quotes from a performance shop other then them wanting to go thru a dealership? Hell if i can get a check im going to get some sh*t I want if you guys know what im saying. Just wanst expecting to get my stuff this soon.
