stock bottom end
i was just wondering how much boost is safe on a stock ls1 bottom end. i really dont have any clue so give me some opinions on what you guys think would be safe with what i have listed at the bottom. thanks.

There are tons of threads with this question. I made one a few months back, and the general "safe" limit is around 500HP. So maybe 7-8lbs of boost. Some have pushed WAY more than that.. A lot of it depends on the tune, though.

Since you are already at a good HP for a stock motor you won't be able to safely run much boost. Once you pass 500ish you are driving a time bomb. I made alot more then 500 with no issues but it's only a matter of time. GL

500RWHP seems to be the standard. Don't go past it or its just a matter of time. You could always switch out your rod bolts with ARP. That may buy you some time till you forge your bottom end.

7-8 psi is a nice medium but i wouldnt go more than that on a completely stock motor. For extra security even on 8psi i always like to do ARP rod bolts and sometimes throw in a set of Speed Pro/Sealed Power forged pistons and rings since they are semi afforable and i have the skillz to do it. Other than that it all depends, your car could blow up tomorrow with no boost but it all depends. Eitherrr way i have a complete turbo kit thats new in the box that im looking to sell if you're interested! Lemme know in a PM because i might not check back here again

i run 10-11 but have 6.0 heads so i have to run a lil more boost to make power.. u can have 500+ plus for a while as long as ur not hot lapping it or driving around for a couple hours and then getting on the high way..heat and boost is whats gonna blow it and a fast *** car

I had the car making 660 rwhp with only 317 cast heads. They are the 6.0 truck heads. They flow alot better then stockers and have lower compression. Might be something you look into. They are cheap. Outside of those I had nothing done to keep the engine together. I had fuel of coarse. I had it like that for about a year before I tore it apart to go faster. GL man

I was planning on running the 6.0L LQ9 patriot heads.. But not right away..
Still debating whether or not I should build this 6.0L block my buddy has.. wants to give it to me for $600. I could build that in the meantime, while running a good 500-550HP on the stock LS1.. That way my car wouldn't be down, but I wonder how much more expensive that would be than just forging my ls1 motor..?

My engine had about 110,000 miles when I Procharged. After 3 years of abuse with no engine problems I then ran through some deep water and got hydrolocked. Water not 10 pounds of boost ended my engine. Its not fair.

Want an honest opinion what's truly safe and reliable...... 0 PSI (Damn engine wasn't designed for boost in the first place!!) Ok, with that out of the wy, you can safely tune for 8PSI on an intercooled setup (supercharger or turbo). That's about the limit. Possibly 10PSI with low compression LQ9 heads and a $hit-hot tune.....but you're taking a risk there. The stock rod bolts in any instance will let go around the 550-600RWHP range. That translates to the 8-11PSI range. There are some (like an old EPP build) that ran up to 15PSI, but that's not the norm and will not survive on a daily driven vehicle.

Stock 5.3L, ProCharged @ 70k miles, last 20k or so w/ 10+ #'s, motor just removed @ 218k miles to install a new forged motor...I never had one mechanical failure...
ran the 4900# truck to a new best of 13.28 @ 102 on 217k+ miles last month...

I repeatedly see ringland damage from pushing things a little too far. A sc'd car that I tuned a while back (fast90, 224 cam, nice headers, D1sc at 12psi on a 2-bar tune with alkycontrol meth) made like 575 a few weeks before with the belt slipping on the dyno and not making but 9-10psi. You get an idea of what he was making IRL on the street at 12psi. The car was left fat at 11.0 on heavy meth and 14-16 deg of timing at WOT (tuning done on the street in the REAL world) and still broke a ring land after a few weeks of spirited daily driving. At teardown there were no signs of knock on the piston that let go that you would expect from something that say, went lean. EPP just recently built this up into a nice new forged bottom end for the guy and did a top notch job of it.
On the other hand, I tuned an 01 ws6 in the south west side of the state who (I'm pretty sure posts here) with a 76mm front mount that he made on a stock engine with AFR heads, fast 90, 222/226 cam on a 114LSA, alkycontrol and heavy on the meth at 12 psi. The car was never put on a dyno and was tuned on the street (2-bar) and was an absolute beast to get tuned on the street. A little over a year has passed as well as 8,000 remarkable miles at the last time that I spoke to the owner. I told him I didn't think it'd last more than a few weeks.
