My son called me via cell a few hours back and said it was a awful thing to see. He said they immediately shut the whole place down. Said he went into the sand trap at a very high speed, and maybe even into the woods. Motor blew on top end, they think maybe he was knocked unconscious, because the car never seemed to slow down at all....That class is by far the most dangerous of them all. Very sad news. WJ

If I remember correctly, you have the sand, then the net, then a concrete barrier to stop you from going onto the road at the end of the track. But none the less, a very sad day.R.I.P.

I was there on fri and saw him..cant belive it.....its very sad...im not sure what went in the air after the sand....but either way the wall would not of been much better. We may need to think of longer shut downs or perhaps slow these things down abit, or race 1200 feet. Something.....I love to go fast and watch ppl go fast...but 4 deaths in 5 years is just too much.

I watched the interview with Jim Head last night. Jim is a very very smart guy, his comments about going to 1/8th mile racing, as much as I don't really like only running 1/2 the track I think is becoming more and more pratical.
Everything Jim said is true, the back 1/2 of the 1/4 is where all the damage occurs/speeds get scary, pretty much applies to all drag racing.
I'm not going to start advocating 1/8th mile only racing, but if all the organizations went to it to save lives, that's fine by me.
