Default My Toy 1969 Firebird LQ4 L92 L76

This is my play toy. I previously had an LT1 (hence my screen name) but I wanted more, so I jumped on the LSx bandwagon. The engine details are in my sig. I just about have the tuning done so I can get to a dyno one of the days to see what I can do. From a seat of the pants feel, it is great, my one issue is rear tires. Drag radials are the next purchase. The tires on there now (p255/60r15) are worthless, it spins until I say when, nice problem to have. The funnest part is you don't need to brake torq the car or anything, just nail it and it immediately lights em up. From a 30 roll, it just leaves a black tire rubber haze in the air from shredding my poor tires.

I have LS3 Corvette rail covers that I modified and painted silver and car color, I am waiting on a couple of custom decals to finish them up, I will have Pontiac 6.0L instead of the Corvette name and LSX instead of LS3 on them.

Here is a video at idle and a couple of pics of the setup.

Nice work! How long did it take you to swap everything out?

Thanks for the compliments.
It took a couple of months all together. I reworked the factory truck harness last fall and had the engine pretty much done along with the trans. I didn't work on it all winter so this spring I jumped back in and got it done.

Looks and sound great! Once you get it dialed in with DR's are you planning to take it to the track?? I was considering going this route someday possibly but would love to see some times slips on them when they are all done. Trying to decide if its all worth it to go LSX over my current sbc.

Yes, I plan on running it at least a few times to see what it will do.
I might get some Caltrac traction bars and try those instead of the slappers I have to see how they do as well.

Have you ever tride the competition slide-a-link traction bars? I was thinking about putting these on my camaro. Currently I am focused on getting my suspension rebuilt then I am going to work on the engine.

Good to hear...Please post up or PM me with how the track goes. For sure get the Caltrac's. I am running them on my 69 and love them. You can get them in a version for lowered cars. It gives more ground clearence than the regular brackets.

your sig says you have the hooker headers. what mounts, frame stands, and plates are you using? how is the clearance with the power steering box?

I used the same doghouses and motor mounts that I used for the LT1, stock Camaro small block stuff. I made my own plates, I just sat the motor down where I liked it and marked their locations and drilled and tapped the out. I have great clearance with Hookers, the best header fit I have seen in a long time. There about 3/8" clearance, the could be more if Hooker would move the #5 cylinder tube back farther.
