This is going on my 1999 ss....do you need a shim for this application to wrk...also will the ls1 slave cylinder work for this as well???

No shim, and yes the LS1 shim works. Replace it while you're in there.

thnx...well what should i do now, because i took it to a shop, and now that its in, it doesnt want to get into gear ESPECIALLY reverse....the guy was telling me that i need to buy a newer corvette slave cylinder and have a shim made, but besides that they basically dont know what to tell me....my car is in worse shape as far as driveability now, than it was before i took it there....

Same here, no shim. Just used a new F-body slave cylinder and throwout bearing.

Yours sounds like the clutch hydraulics aren't bled properly.

I just did mine and couldn't figure out why I had no pressure or clutch feel. I didn't know there is a gasket that needs to be used til I got a napa slave and there it was in a baggy instead of that autozone crap. I don't know anything about needing a spacer/shim with this install. The other thing I found out is that the rubber resivor cap seals air tight and is very hard to pull off once I bleed the air from the hydraulics. Im using a new s10 master cylinder I installed last winter but after doing the tranny rebuild, new slave, and ls7 this was the first time I have ever noticed my resivor cap seal so tight. I have never trusted shops and for good reason for one most will lie up a storm to get it in and figure it out then. You would think that they would know how to bleed the slave. Also, if you install the slave a little off you can't get a socket on the bleeder screw. Yeah, I learned that lesson and pulled the tranny to fix it. What flywheel are you using anyways a ls2.

They are self adjusting and you dont need a shim or anything. I am running all 01-02 hydraulics you need to get too along with new pilot bearing. When i 1st put it in it would engage at the very bottom of the the floor and it slowly adjusted itself to the top of the pedal. Also you can try bleeding it some more.

yea im using the ls2...and i talkd to the guy at the shop, and he said he'd take care of it later on this wk...problem is, i tried to take the car for a spin today, and couldnt even get it out the garage....it just kept grinding everytime i tried to put it in reverse!!!!!?

Thats odd, sixspeedsinc told me to use a shim on the LS7 clutch due to they engage so close to the floor. Mine wasnt fully letting go with the clutch all the way in.

I didn't shim mine either and it worked perfect. I went with the RAM big bore slave though
