My 97 Dodge with the 12V Cummins kicks collective butt. I've got BHAF, 4" exhaust, #11 TST fuel plate (stock position), AFC spring kit and gauges. Truck has plenty of power, acceleration and still knocks down 19-21mpg with 200k on the clock.

Upcoming mods will be 3000 RPM Govenor Spring Kit and eventually a new clutch (still on the original). No need for more power at the moment. It is nowhere near as glamourous or as fast as the newer Cummins or Dmax's or PS, but there is something to be said for simplicity and longevity. And you can't mistake the sound of the 12V Cummins, music to the ears.

A few things that would help.. I would use them as a combo set-up for the best results

programmer- ppe, Edge Products, TS Performance
Air Intake system- AFE
exhaust- MBRP Exhaust, AFE Exhaust, Magnaflow

intake and exhaust helps the motor breath in the diesels this helps MPG alot. Those huge cats and mufflers are super restrictive. biggest thing is keep your foot out of it.

Yea.. I like the way the 12V Cummins sounds too.. Plus you can build them up to make some big power

The only think stopping me from turning a perfectly reliable truck into a hot rod is the stock clutch. Its the weak link and won't hold big power. A new South Bend clutch upgrade is close to $1200, so I'll wait till the stocker gives out. This is my first diesel and I'll never go back, although I did like when diesel was cheaper than reg unleaded. Oh well, I still think the trade off is worth it if you keep it for the long haul.

Im new to the rigs, but i just got my 08 DM 2500 HD crew cab loaded with every option i could get besides roof racks.

i up graded from a 2500hd 6.0 ex cab.
what a diffrance, i dont think i will ever buy a gas jo again.
i get about 16 mpg thats city/highway mix

i did a MBRP dual filter back exhaust and my PPE programmer should be in today. im told that will jack me up 2-4 MPG that puts me at 20 mpg avrage, and im told after about 3000-5000 miles i will gain 1-2 more mpg.
so far im 100% loving it!!
my gas cost per week has been pretty much cut in half!!

2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel. I get 18-19 mpg suburbia driving and about 23 highway. I have a Smarty Jr. programmer, intake, and 6" mitre cut stacks. Also it's lifted 6" and has 37" tires on it.

What air intake are you running? OEM or aftermarket? A good air intake will increase MPG by helping the stock turbo to move more air and the engine to burn un used diesel fuel...
