Default Cats-Pro's and Con's?

I have a '00 Z28 with flowmaster exhaust, intake, etc. I was wondering if anybody knew the good and bad of getting the cats taken off. Wouldn't it be about the same as getting an off-road Y-pipe? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks..

Will, post this topic up in the external engine LS1/LS6/LSx section for better responses.

Pros
Better flow, more hp

Cons
You smell like a gas station when u get out of your car, harder to get inspected, and more of a raspy exhaust note.

I would check out some Long tube headers, with the removable cats, so u can take them on and off as you please.

Cons- You will probably be illegal in your state with no cats.

Con: You WILL be illegal in all 50 states with no cats, Federal law.

Pro: 2 rwhp gain, no more.

May be Federal Law, but it's county specific inspections in Indiana (which only 2 require an inspection).

Also, Confucious say, Cat in exhaust make car sound like *****.

The county of Indiana requires Fereral Law compliance. It would be illegal.

I'm not saying ya all can't get away with it. I know It's not too hard to find an inspection station to slip a $20, to over-look the lack of cats.

I'm just saying that it does fail federal law, state law, country law, local law and even down to your very local street law (this includes Boomer Sooner's location).

Just know that! ...don't agrue to me that its not illegal, then go ahead and do what you want.

Then if by some chance one day, you do get busted, I dont want to hear your crying about it on here.
