the bodywork begins
hey, i figured id make a thread about my paintjob's process.
today was the first day, didnt do much but take off the doorpanels, tail light panel, front bumper and some little things
and theres my big *** speaker box lol
also got bored and made some possible paint lines lol.
the future colors are dark cherry metallic and either flat or gloss white, havent made my mind up.

gonna take a lot longer than i planned, id like to pimp slap whoever painted this car last. somehow they forgot to scuff the previous layer of paint and clear before they sprayed their crap. so now i need to sand off the top layer of paint and clear off of eveything but the decklid, then re wet sand the whole car haha. i was about to prime it, and i saw a chip, so i sanded is, and sooner than later, half the fenders paint is laying underneath it. PITA lol good thing i caught it thought cause if i would have sprayed it, i would have figured it out then and wasted a whole lot of primer
heres some pics of the car when i thought it was ready for the primer
an heres what too much sandage looks like haha
and heres some pictures of before this for the records, i just like this one lol

Appears to be coming along nice. Just curious but what is your motivation to combine white and dark cherry. I think dark cherry looks sweet by itself but I will salute you for being different.
As for the stripes, are the sections you tapped off going to be filled in or just outlined?
The 10 spokes are a nice touch. Will you be keeping them or swapping them for something else?

the z28 is just sitting there for the pictures haha
10 spokes are gonna stay, im thinking of painting them white, brake calipers will be red.
as for motivation on the white and dark cherry... i really dont know lol, i see black on red a lot and i just decided to be different. i just wanted the car to stick out a little more as well
i may change my mind, ill eventually have the car all painted in just cherry, since im wanting to do the stripes in flat, they will have to be painted on top of the clear for the red. im starting to lean towards gloss though so idk.
im change my mind pretty often, its hard to tell whats gonna happen lol

Are you doing the sanding yourself? Judging by those burns it looks like your just palming the sandpaper. I HIGHLY suggest using a block sander or something flat. Your going to create very un-even surfaces in the paint and cause a HUGE headache after the primer goes down. I'm not sure what your plan of action is here, but using your bare hands is a big time no-no.

the top coat of paint needed to come off, i palm wet sanded most of the car, then went back with a block and smoothed it all out
didnt got with cherry metallic, i stuck with the factory maroon and used atlus grey metallic for the grey.
