Question 370 w/l92s

stock bottom end lq4, l92s w new style 918's, carb/tb efi GMPP intake, 38lb injectors, 80mm tb, sheetmetal elbow. now heres the question. ive got a comp cam xer lobes 238/242 @ .050 59x/60x on a 115lsa w/+5 advance. whats yalls thoughts on the cam for maximum power? is the 115 too much lsa? goin in a 1980 2door malibu approx. 3000lbs th400 w/3400 stall and brake, 9 inch with 3.55 or 3.73 gear and a 28'' tall tire. any thoughts on cam would be appreciated, i know the l92s like a little diff cam than the cathedral port design.

lq4 is 364 cid, btw, you have to bore 30 thou to get 370. that looks like an old s-cam from hpe, i would sell it. i would opt for something in the 240/255 109-108 lsa range if i were you. you'll want a bigger stall no matter how you go as that 115 lsa cam is going to be lazy in the lower rpms, and a 3400 stall is only going to make it seem that much worse off the line. if you won't budge off the stall i would suggest something custom in the mid-low 230s. unless you're spraying that thing will be s l o w off the line, especially with that gear and tire.

from what i've read the L92 head likes a big split as well as the carb style intakes liking the intake valve opening 4* or so sooner. as it sits i'd guess your setup to pull ~420whp on a dyno. just remember, dyno numbers don't mean ****, ESPECIALLY when autotragic cars are generating them.

good luck and looks like a nice setup. i will do an lsx bu, when is the question haha.

+1...that cam looks large for what has been working with those heads. Give EDC a call...

The cam is definitely not the best - or even close - for that build.

I wouldn't run 918's on these heads on a bet. That's huge intake valve you're trying to control.

I say dyno it with that cam, then let us know how it works. The more data the better with the L92's.

I'm sure he doesn't want to **** around if he doesn't have to. Time is money and I am guessing he isn't made of money. Just contact lg motorsports or ed curtis or speed inc or some other very reputable shop with lots of l92 experience and have them grind you a cam a be on the road. That cam he has in mind will not work good with l92 heads I know just from reading all the l92 posts.

Here is what I am running. Comp Cams custom grind - 222/238 .581/.605 114+4. This only give 2 degrees of overlap at .050. Idles very good, little lope, no surging.

The other mods are in my sig. The DCR came in at 8.5 and SCR is 10.8.

If you were doing a EFI setup I would give you my tune for a base to start with, that was the time consuming part, coming up with a tune when you start with nothing.

I have not had it to the track or dyno yet but it feels very strong. From a standing stop in drive it spins through 3rd gear. From a 20 mph roll, it lights them up with ease. I have your basic street tires (P255/60r15) so DR's are the next purchase.
