Your passes with that motor on that rearend will definately be limited. I'd start saving some money up now for a good one. It really depends though. I'd be reluctant to put slicks on there. Drag radials might be you're best bet, but I wouldn't be launching it every chance I got even with those.

It may last a while with street tires, but launches on slicks will be like playing russian roulette. some have gotten away with it, others have not.

Mine made hundreds of passes with street tires. I put in new axles, studs, axle and carrier beaings, plus a diff cover and got 4 passes with slicks when the posi exploded! I had stock suspension except LCA's and the axle hop is likley what killed mine. It just depends on how hard your hitting/ shocking the tires and if any axle hop occurs as to how long it'll last. I'd start saving for a new rear just so you've got one less thing to worry about on the starting line!

?????????????????????????????????? Thats how long it will last with slicks OR D Radials, if your planning on buying a NEW rearend, i'm sure its going to cost your $$$$, unless you found one for next to nothing, if so, spend the money & get a moser 9" houseing/axle/bearing package, you'll be out a grand, then all you need is a 3rd. member, this you can pieced together with good **** for around 7-800.00, then throw some stickies on it & launch away!!! Thats my 2 cents lol, if my poor azz can do it, so can you.

I would go s60 or 12bolt. 9' is too big for a street car. That rear sucks up 20hp or better, between the added rotational mass and extra weight. I have watched my dad's 69 camaro run low 9's on a moser 12bolt, pulling a 1.26 60ft. The car was lifting the wheels high enough to see the whole exhaust under the car lol!

This is not true, get the facts straight, don't mean to be blunt, but the 12 bolt is a great rear for the older chevy's, but the 9" is the way to go in these F bodies, they are lighter then the S60 & easier to change gears & they do not rob power as much as you think, i have one, so i know.

9" being to big? How so? The S60 has a ring gear diameter of 9.75" compared to the 9" ring gear diameter of the 9" (hence the name). All good rear ends and have proven themselves time and time again, but here is how they rank...in this order. s60, 9", 12 bolt.

And to the OP, save you money for a rear end that you wont be worried about leaving you stranded on the side of the road if you put throttle to the floor.

I stand corrected, you guys are right. The s60 is heavier than the 9", I had the two mixed up. I still think the 12bolt is the route Im goin, or hopefully someday they come out with a 8.5 10bolt that will have the tq arm holes. The 9" is a good rear, but they compromise the ride of the car a lil bit. The 12bolt maintains a better ride. I'm just basing my opinion of a 9" f-body I rode in. It definately will hold up, but my car is really street only and I like to keep the ride quality as close to stock as possible.

Yeah the 9" does give a different feel then the stock rear, i'm sure the 12 bolt would give a smoother ride then the 9", the only reasons i opted for the 9" is, the removeable 3rd. member & the problems i've heard from some of the M6 guys running the 12 bolt & the torque arm bolt issues they were haveing, plus they started getting ring/pinion whine after a few thrashings on stickies, seems the 9" haveing the torque arm mounts on the houseing vs. the 3rd. member keeps stress off of the guts, i will say my 9" is quiet with 4.11s & spooled (yukon gears), the ride isn't too bad at all, the added insurance is what i wanted, & its primarily a street car, i did take a 110 mile round trip to the track last week, had it to 115 & it was fairly smooth, but it did ride like a caddy with the 10 bolt. Staying away from the floor mounted tunnel brace will help ride too, i've heard they can be rough.
