Sheet Metal Intakes

Sheet Metal Intakes
New to the forum...but been watching the threads. I would like to know from those who have experience with custom sheet metal intakes... how well do they work on the street in daily driving. Are they strictly for race, or do they act okay at low RPM and part throttle acceleration. Just curious as to street drivability
thanks

I wish you weren't so negative all the time dude ^ Just let people waste the money if they'd like. Until you show me some science behind your claims of people wasting money and such, I think you're just bitchin for no reason. Not trying to start anything with you dude, but with all due respect, just let it be. If you want to stick with oem parts, go right ahead no one is going to argue with you. And they expect the same back. Sorry for this mini rant to the original poster.

The Caprice guy is entitled to his oppinion. I know they do things differently over at the Impala SS forum... he just is from a different school of thought.
Any thoughts on the Sheet intake?

well SLP made a prototype sheet metal intake that they used on a race firehawk that was raced by Rick Shay, and that car is well over 500hp and won many a race in the IMSA series. so there can be advantages to the sheet metal intakes, you just need someone who knows what they are doing to build it. at the very least it will save you weight.

Believe the second one is a Steve Quinn set up, which is a heavily modified LT1 Based Intake. He got his Z28 to run 9.7@138 all motor with a 370 Cube LT1 running Ported Stock Castings with that intake. Same guy to go 10.50s on a stock short block and LT1 Heads. I wonder what happened to that Wilson set up some one was going to run years ago, was a white twin turbo Z28.

Well..I have a really nice project underway with someone building a 383 for me. The car will be NA and I am not planning on making doing any nitrous or forced induction... but I do want to make sure that I can make the most power possible NA. But I also want to drive it to work everyday cuz its the only car I have...yeah I'm stage of life right now...baby on the way..etc But I will put a child seat in the back of the Z, I dont care

This was my old intake, most likely will never run on an engine. It is a modified 350 ramjet crate engine intake. Its a LOOONG story so dont ask.
Well, seeing as LT1 NHRA super stock cars run sheetmetal intakes, they must do something.
You can make 700 plus hp with a super victor, and thats ALOT!

But would it be okay on a daily driven car? Maybe I should stick with the stock piece. I just hate to have all that motor and still be limied on the intake side... might as well go with a 355cid if thats the case

i have a hogan intake on my motor. retail new was almost $2700. how much is the power worth to you is the bottom line. everything has a price.
it is well worth it to me! albeit i believe i would see more gains if my application wasn't nitrous driven.

Do you have any photos of it? Is it good on the street at lower RPM's? Good for a part time daily driver?

it is fine on the street! i mean, cam selection is one of the integral parts that determine street manners. my car made 525 at the wheels on shell 91, and that was through the original slp 2otl catback and a k&n filter up front.
i had actually hoped to make more power but.... i put a more aggressive nitrous cam in the motor last winter. i sacrificed a little more on the motor for the benefit of the bottle.
the pic of the intake on the flow bench is basically my intake, and the one a few photos down, is almost identical as well.
luckyou,
i tend to disagree, but that is just my opinion, much like yours. hmmm...ricer wing, lol! think not!
