Default Took my side moldings off.. and it appears as though my car has been repainted :(

I took off all my side moldings. And all the paint was fine until I got to the small piece on the rear drivers side. The color is slightly different. I dont know much about paint work, but it appears as though the rest of the rear fender has "more" clear, I can even scrape it off. How much would something like this cost to fix?

It sounds like the panel was blended to the seem (the door jam.) The wife's TA was that way...luckily that little piece is what I pulled off first and found it. I just got some double sided tape and stuck it back on. Thats really all you can do unless you are brave enough to do some major wet sanding...and risk ******* it up worse than it is.

I had that same issue, so I just had the entire car repainted. It's black and 8 years old, so it needed it anyway.

Same happened to me. I went to take off my side moulding.. The one on the front fender came off and looked great, I was excited to see the rest of it off. Get the whole damn driver door moulding off and then get to the rear 1/4 to find that it was repainted and looked like **** under. Had to get some more tape/glue to put it back on. I was pissed.

I was trying to take my side molding off about a year ago, and the first little strip i took off was on the passenger side. The paint underneath was Sebring Silver metallic. I was sad.

My front fender was repainted by the previous owner with the side molding on. When I took off the side molding it really looked like ****. I liked the look of !side molding too much to put it all back on. I wet sanded the area, used rubbing compound, then polished it. It looks great now and you cant even tell it was repainted.

The reason why they were on, is because when tony got it, it was like that. He tried totake it off and noticed it was painted, so he bought new moldings and put it back on.

I remember specifically asking him why he hadn't taken them off when I cleaned up his car.

would have freaked out if it was hot pink under the mouldings hehe
sounds like it might have been blended from other panel repairs

Ya, I was kind of surprised that tony never took them off either. It really isnt "that bad". The rest of the side moldings came off with out any issues. I'm going to try to take a pic real quick. not sure if it'll show up though.

I think it was sprayed then cleared over so I don't think wetsanding or buffing is going to help.

take some 2000 grit wet, sand slowly and alswayus check your progress, make it so the the harsh line goes mostly away, the buff it out, oh and hope for the best.

i just cant believe how many cars were painted without the moldings being removed first! then again, i got the macco special on an old beater and they painted over my pin stripes.

Quick Reply: Took my side moldings off.. and it appears as though my car has been repainted :(
