Stock DD vs. S2000
So I was driving around b/c it's saturday night and at least it's not 95* outside, washed the MR2 and stopped off at Chipotle with a friend of mine. Out on the road afterwards I see this red S2000 with the top down and 2 guys chuckling as I pass them. They speed up a couple of times while we're in traffic and I oblige by following and matching speed to let'em know I'm game. We mess around a little more with traffic thinning out and just waiting until no one is around. Perfect...a stop light, we're both first, it's on. Light turns green and we both roll outta the light a bit slow but hit it as soon as possible, I pull about 2 cars instantly on him and as I'm shifting I heard him back there squelling tires with each shift, he catches about 1/2 a car on me from the 2-3 shift but never got anything after that.
All in all I was about 1.5-2 cars ahead from a 5-80, so not a bad run.
I drive around a bit more looking for the usual hangout spots and no one is around Oh well, I pull into an empty parking lot and not 30 seconds later who's pulling in? That's right him again, I talked with him for a bit and asked what he had (stock with some intake delete mod) and I told him I was stock too with some Jap computer
I must say tho that during the entire run I wasn't hitting full boost (like 10psi on a stock car) more like 6-7 so I prolly woulda pulled another car on him if it was a cooler night. Looks like it's time for a new intercooler.

Good run... running from 5mph in an S2000 is a HORRIBLE idea, as you aren't gonna get any power till 25-30mph or so (why you instantly jumped 2 cars). A good run would be going from 25-30 in first, or 50mph in 2nd.

Do you understand variable valve timing? Below a certain rpm it has VERY mild cam lobes/timing/fuel curves to help fuel economy and driveability. At the preset rpm it pulls a COMPLETE change for when you need the power. If you want the power, be at/above that rpm. Not a hard concept to grasp. If the LSx motors had that people would LOVE it. Do you go around racing from a 2,000rpm roll? Probably not, because it's COMPLETELY out of your powerband. Just like a 5mph roll is for an S2000.

THe s2000s don't dyno very high bone stock...
And the earlier 2L I4 had a downright sad amount of torque (for those drag enthusiasts out there)
I still think it's a good replacement for the MX5 miata for those who aren't willing to sacrifice that much for a track roadster. I don't think you could catch me dead in an MX5, even at the track, a hard top s2000... Maybe

Yeah, S2000s typically dyno right around 200rwhp. The 2.0s are lacking in the torque department, but what that means to an individual all depends on how they're gonna be driving it. For someone like me who just drives it around normal most of the time, and occasionally will carve some corners it's not bad. I have driven a couple 2.2s ('04+) though, and you can tell the difference in low-rpm torque, but there are also gearing changes that make them nearly-identical in straightline performance.

Yeah, catching him at 2,000rpm in first gear was definitely good. If he knew how to launch the car, going from a dead stop would have been his best bet. Or of course 25-30mph.

I had to get rid of my MR2 turbo. That thing was so damn slow I always found myself powershifting the snot out of it and launching the **** out of it to keep up with anything. (still didn't work) I fried the stock clutch then installed a Spec stage 2 clutch and right when I was selling the car the transmission had problems going into gear at WOT. I'm sure glad I'm back in a V8 car!

Cry fest? I told him good run, and I told him I didn't expect the car to do any better than it did, especially from 5mph. Not sure where you're getting "cry fest" from . And you'd be surprised how many people have no idea with VTEC does, or just how many manufacturers are currently using a variable valve timing system.
