Default Just received my 9"...

I just received my Moser 9" housing, 3rd member and axles today...
My Z is a 3 channel car with all the stock stuff, being set up for Land
Speed Racing, so LCA relocation brackets and a high gear set were not
ordered. I've done FULL swaps before, but have a few questions with going
from a stock 10 bolt to a 9".

1. What parts need to be taken off the 10 bolt?
I've heard the backing plates need to be pulled and then pressed onto
the 9" housing, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

2. Can the stock torque arm be used?
The housing came with a torque arm mount, but I want to make sure
that the stock one is fine.

3. Will the rear sway bar bolt back in after the 9" install?

Thanks for your feedback! Luke

I believe number 1 is correct..

As for 2, I don't think you can use your stock TA. The TA mound is for an aftermarket one. Do some searching on here and you'll find all the pros and cons to them.

And 3, I'm not entirely sure but I think there has to be some changes there as well.

Sorry I'm not a guru on rear ends, but from reading around a little that's what I've come to gather. You could always search on here and find a lot..

1) Correct. You'll have to situate the backing plate between the new axle bearing and the axle flange. The bearings are what needs to be pressed on. Don't forget that left and right sides are unique.

2) The stock torque arm can be re-used.

3) Stock sway bar can be re-installed using larger u-clamps that will accommodate the larger axle tubes. A number of companies make SB install kits for the 9".

1. Use your stock backing plates
2. You can use the stock torque arm although it is difficult to align and not desireable by most because it is not very strong.
3. Did you have the mounts added to your housing for the sway bar? I fnot you can do what has been suggested but we have noticed the stock sway bar will still contact the back of the housing and cause a thumping sound.

1.) Like others have said you can you your stock backing plates, the backing plates will need to be put on the axles and before the bearings.
2.) As far as the torque arm, Since you have the Moser 9" you cannot use your stock torque arm. You will have to use an after market torque arm.
3.) 3" exhaust clamp will do the trick.

..I think we need a clarification.

Which Moser housing does the thread starter have? Is it the fancy M9? Or is it the regular Moser f-body housing? ....The stock TA fits just fine on a my regular Moser 9" housing, where as, if I'm not mistaken, it will not fit the M9...

All that being said, lets not lose site of the fact that an adjustable TA is a good mod and would be necessary if/when you need to adjust the pinion angle.
