Benefit of a 4" FMIC
#4
Depends a lot on the quality of airflow through the FMIC, but it will help, probably in the order of a 10-15% temp reduction and similar drop in restriction.
It also is a large heatsink mass, so on short burst of power, you get a payoff that way as well.

Zombiess probably makes right around there on a good day. It uses a 3 inch core (the ussual) and our next step is to up the cold side pipe area pre itercooler.
I agree with the other guys, that its probably 10-15% in air temp. I get 125 ish with no meth at 15 psi with ambient in 90-100 area. So its probably worth 12-15 degrees....
Does it matter? It does if thats the point that the combustion temp auto ignites.....with no spark. I think theory is that if the combustion temp reaches 660 + or around there (I dont recall forsure) that detonation will occur. So if you at 17 psi and getting 650 combustion temps with a 4 inch core your golden still....but then you swap on a 3 incher and the temps rise to 665.....with the same tune then your wondering why you broke a piston? Or just run 1 less degree of timing?
If you have the room, and the extra 80 or so bucks for the intercooler, and the extra $$ for 4 inch pipe then do it. The 4 icnh pipe might ad another 200 $ to the cold side pipes though.

Yes....
Mine isnt the typical ebay core, but I use a pair of Pace cores that I used to use on my old twin turbo Rover V8 setup.
I cut them up and welded them together to make a single unit. Far from ideal, but it works ok, and didnt really cost me anything.

Our intercooler kits also use the 4" intercooler with 3" tubing, it kept my car cool at the LSX Shootout last year on the required drive in True Street and the 1/4 mile runs. Bob
