How Fast Can You Change an Opti Competition
I was just wondering. I've had this engine apart so many times now that I could swap an opti from start to finish in about 45 minutes with pneumatic tools.
Has there ever been a competition at any of the F-body meets? There oughtta be. Get MSD to sponsor it or something. Anyway, how fast can you do it?

Air pump? I never touch it. I remove the rad fans, then the balancer, then the water pump, then the opti. I use hose clamps to avoid losing fluid, but you can't help the deluge from the water pump and the block.
BTW Rob, your avatar looks just like mine. I'm gonna have to change. Too many copycats using it now.

If all I am changing is the opti (no wires/plugs and all the rest, just an opti swap) then I have it down to about 1 1/2-2 hours of solid work beginning to end. This is in my garage mind you, on my *** with no air tools or lift. Just a full tool set and a little bit of beer
Remember, you can work around most of the stuff thats in there. It all depends really on how many times I have to stop and yell at my friends/family for screwing around and trying to hold me up.
Give me a lift, air tools and no distractions and I am SURE I could cut a big chunk of that time off.

I have taken my opti on/off two times in the past year, and i am sure it will be more....it must be a 93 thing because mine is a 93 and is bolted to the frame rail...i guess i am lucky, less bolts to worry about

I had it down to a little over an hour when I had mine. I had the AC System removed, so all I had to do was drain the Radiator, removed the Lines, pull the Radiator out, and my skinny *** could work in that area with some Air Tools without a problem.
Pretty much like Buffman was talking about..
LSX Swap gets rid of it all..
