Default painting interior pieces

couldnt find **** in the search as usual but here is my question:

What would be the best way to paint interior plastic pieces? I am going to change my tan interior to ebony, or black. i still need to find carpet and door panels (for the vinyl) and seats obviously, but how should I paint the plastics? i dont think sanding them would be a good idea, but should i use adhesion promotor then just rattle can black? i dont want tiger stripe and i dont want my interior to stink like paint.

any suggestions?

How about you just recover the seats and make them black with tan centers? Likewise with the door panels and if you want it even darker then put in the black carpet. It will have a nice contrast IMO. Speed Inc sells lightweight carpet for our cars.

Best idea. Don't rattle can the interior, it just looks cheap and tacky IMO

I've seen it done properly. The key is in the prepwork as is all paint jobs. Scotchbrite, primer, paint, clear. And I'll bet you will be the only one to ever know.

i want to do it the right way, ive painted motorcycle plastics before and they came out really well, but interior is different because its more of a flat color, not shiny, and i want to keep the texture in the panels. how would i paint these without them looking cheap and without sanding them flat?

this was my idea:

scotch brite surface

lay down adhesion promoter/primer

lay down primer

scotch brite loose paint

then paint them with some kinda of plastic paint...or should i use duplicolor type paints...i dont want it to chip off and i DONT want my interior to smell like paint.

When i painted my dash pieces, i only used some "degreaser" on them. i had used armour all wipes on them about a week before. Cleaned them up and then sprayed them down with gloss black dupli-color vinyl paint. then hit them with a clear coat, and so far. They've held up, it's been about 2 months now.

I also left the pieces outside for a couple of hour's, before i put them back in. I didnt want the car to smell like paint, which it still did somewhat but not bad. Just keep window's cracked for a couple of day's and smell went away.

You can do it that way man, just going with my experience so far.

Used paint on mine. No paint smell, clean easily and look real good IMO. (I only did certain ones as an accent though.)

I've done pastic parts three ways. All involve getting all the armour all, factory mold release chemical, and scratches off. I personally like textured pastic but you can sand for a glassed look. My dash has chips from my knuckles banging gears over 6 yrs.

1. sand, wash parts
2. spary 3m adhesive grease remover or xylon
3. adhesive promotor

After this I've done different ways.

4. krylon pastic paint.
5. clear

or

4. primer
5. paint
6. clear coat

or

with vinyl

4. dupicolor interior vinyl pastic fabric paint.
5. clear
