Urgent! Borla will not mate up to new Y Pipe
Alright so heres whats goin on. New LPP stainless headers and Y, Borla Catback, 2001 TA. Header install went very smooth, now the problem is that the Y is reduced down to 2 3/4" and the Intermediate pipe is also reduced to 2 3/4". So obviously one cant slip inside the other. Has anyone else had this problem? Please help, I'd really like to get these things done!

only problem there is that the borla pipe has splits cut in it from borla to allow it to slip fit and clamp down. the exhaust shops around here are telling me it will just split if they try to expand it. also, there is only 3/4 of an inch or so overlapping if they were put together.

my post from the NEW LPP HEADERS THREAD
alright well heres what i did. took to borla intermediate pipe to my local exhaust guy to have it expanded. he said that typically those notches cut out on pipes are for them to expand and contract as you tighten them down (with band clamps, not saddle clamps). he was reluctant to expand it because he said usually pipes like to split up the sides where those notches are. i told him i didnt have much to lose, so he used a conical expander and got it opened up without splitting it. he told me if it was going to split, it would have at that point, and then took a 3" O.D. die and pressed it in the end to further expand it and make it perfectly round. took it home and it fit just fine! only problem now is i have a very slight exhaust leak from that joint. I had some really expensive 3" stainless band clamps that were too big, so I went to the local NAPA and they only had 2.5" (too small). SOOOO if you guys do this method, make sure you can get a hold of a 2 3/4" stainless band clamp to get the bitch sealed up tight! anyway, now its done aside from that 1 clamp.

edit: i noticed in the other thread someone else found a 2-3/4" band clamp and clamped the pieces together.

you made a post looking for an urgent answer, that is the solution to a quick resolution. otherwise there is no quick "urgent" solution. there is only taking it to your fab shop of choice to cut out the reductions and weld in a stainless piece. but I would say your best option is to make it all 3" by getting a piece of 3" stainless welded to one end and expanded on the other.
