How to make my 10 bolt last
Ok so I am wondering what kinds of things I should do try to keep my 10 bolt alive behind a 383 build, a 4l60E and 325's in the rear. The rear end has been rebuilt before but with the addition of the 325's I don't think it will make too long. I have heard of using a TA cover or girdle to put a load on the rear...I realize its probably inevitable that it will break but for humors sake what should I do?

Put a 9 inch or 12 bolt under it and sit the 10 bolt in the corner of the garage. Should last a long time that way. LOL. Seriously, some may have had better luck than me, but I have one of the TA covers, and I broke mine twice in the past couple months and I'm on 18" drag radials... They don't grip too well. I'm saving for a 9 inch.

Having an auto will help prolong its life, but don't expect it to last forever. If your car wheel-hops, stop that first. Wheel-hop will kill the rear. Then just pay attention to it; listen to any whines or groans from the bearings. Any noise from the bearings is a good sign of impending rear death. You may need to provide some maintenance on the rear every 50, 100 or whatever number of runs, by freshening up the bearings.
It's a PITA, but still much less than $3K. Good luck.

I've rebuilt mine twice and failed easily with just bolt ons before the H/C. I bought my rear for my setup. If your looking at putting power down from a dig to low speeds then it will break REGARDLESS of A4 or M6. I would baby and not get wild with it until you get atleast a 12bolt. Some do last but that's like playing roulette. Do you want to spend $1000 beefing up something that will break anyway or towards something that will take the abuse day in and day out?
But if your going to beef the 10 bolt up, replace it all. Gears, axles, diff, weld the axle tubes, and TA diff cover. A set of LCAs and torque arm will help also against wheel hop which is murder for the 10 bolt. That is alot of money to dump on the stocker though

For sure start saving for when it does break so you arent stuck buying 10 bolt after 10 bolt. Dont launch too high, change fluid often, maybe even get a line lock to load the rear before taking off of the line...nothing will keep it from breaking but may get you a few more months out of it.
