Default 9" Experts?

I currently have a 2000 m6 camaro with a 9" rearend that make 402rwhp and 375rwtq N/A and will be making 500-550rwhp and 550-600rwtq on spray. My rearend is equipped a Moser housing, Strange aluminum center section, Tru Trac posi, and Moser 31 spline axles. I have been having problems with my Tru Trac and I think I may have broke it so I will be swapping it out for a spool with 4.11 gears. I would like to know if the 31 spline axles will hold up to 550-600rwtq? Basically I'm asking how many people are running a spool with 31 spline axles in high hp/tq m6 cars?

Ive ran 31 spline aftermarket axles with more than 600 rwtq and they survived. What ended up breaking on that car was a factory 3rd member.

Thanks for the reply, what trans and differential were you running?

T400 and a stock Ford big car 9 inch 3rd member and a spool. 4:46 gears and a 29x12.50 slick. Nodular 3rd member and quality pinion support seemed to fix the issue.

31 spline will take 600rwtq all day long. Like already said, make sure your 3rd member is up to the task.

Cool, my third member is a Strange Aluminum S series with a daytona pinion support and a Tru Trac. I'm not the most educated person about 9" rears but, I assume these are good parts for my application.

Any suggestions on weather or not I should keep the tru trac or ditch it for a spool? This car is a summer car and driven often but, I'm not overly concerned about tire scrub, chriping, or other driving issues. I'm willing to sacrifice a little drivability for strength. I just want to make sure my rear will take a 5000-6000rpm launch on spray.

does anyone else have any input on a street driven car with a spool. As I said before I'm willing to sacrifice some driveability for strength. I just don't see the tru trac holding up to the abuse of an m6 car like a spool would.

I had a spool in a 78 trans am and hated it on the street. U-turns or tight turns in parking lots suck....Especially in the long *** F-bodies. You might try a Detroit locker. Its probably the median between a spool and true track. I am discouraged hearing you are having problems with your true track as I just installed a 9" in my car last night with a true track. I don't race a lot but will definetly hit the strip on ET streets 3-4 times a year and some street action....I am putting around 540hp down.....Hope it holds.

I personally wouldn't run a spool on the street. Im putting a locker in my 9" right now and i'll let you know how it is on the street. I do hear alot of people complain about a locker with a 6spd car.

spools are all Ive had on street/strip cars. The only time you will regret it for sure, is if you have to push the car with the wheel turned

I have a six speed car and a spool. It's most definately not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It seems as tho soft tires and big sidewalls help a TON. In my opion a spool is way more streetable than a locker, in a stick car that is. A locker in an automatic car is not bad at all.

I'd swap out the Truetrac for the spool if your Truetrac has problems with it. You're planning on coming out at a high rpm with nitrous, I feel the spool would be the best way to go. While you are at it, I would swap out the axles for 35 spline axles. Bob

Thanks, for the info Bob. I'm up in the air right now about going with a Detroit Soft Locker or a spool. I have a Strange aluminum case in the car and was told that I couldn't upgrade to 35 spline axles because the case doesn't have enough clearance. Can you shead some light on this please?
