Smile Kenne Bell know-it-alls in here!

So I know there have been threads here or there about the KBs, but some information I've been curious about has been untouched. Maybe you all can help me out here. The owner of the car has expressed interest in these which has piqued my curiosty also.

I'm currently in the middle of an awesome build, planned as a turbo/408/t-56 car but have been getting more and more curious of the KBs.

What is about the max p.s.i. you can push a 2.8 KB too? Their website says 18#s but I'm wanting to go farther than that. Is there anything bigger than that?

Could any KB support a solid roller 408 to 1350-1500 hp on race gas?

There will be no other accessories other than an alternator, and we have no problem cutting the cowl.

If this is a newb question, just let me know and why because I am extremely unfamiliar with these things.

I have not seen a KB in any car push 1k to the tires. But to make it easy I would say big turbo or procharger F1 units. Proven performance and easy to do.

The 2.8kb looks limited to the 800 range as of now, a big turbo would let you do that HP number. If your absolutely looking for a top mount blower for racing, might try looking into a CNC manifold and try fitting a PSI on there

Max blower speed for all KB Blowers is 18,000 RPM.

Lower (Inches) / Upper(Inches) X Engine RPM = Relative Blower Speed.

Its not a perfect equation but It will get you close.

I have personally seen 850 whp KB's on the 2003-2004 Cobras. There are a couple doing more with bigger inlets like their new "Mammoth" and the "Monster" fabricated by another company. Positve displacement blowers LOVE cool fresh air, and a TON of it.

Whipple is currently working on a 4.Xl blower. The biggest KB offers is the 2.8H which is rated to 800 wheel HP (18% drivetrain loss)

Also, the Kenne Bell offers better internal bearings, and a 6x4 rotor design, as opposed to the 5x3 of the whipple. This slows the male rotor speed by 10%.

Hope this helps.

Read this as well, awesome info.

Are you sure it can only go to 18#?

The bearings on the KB billet Superchargers should be a lot stronger than that. (But I am not sure a 2.8 would give anywhere close to the max boost the bearings could take on a large engine like a 408)

Whipple has a 5.0 litre unit that would get you into that range.

Stick with your turbo. MUCH easier to make big power and without those waaayyyyyy HIGH IAT's that the KB will saddle you with.

High IAT'S?

Do you think this is because of the older style non-Mammoth inlets on the C5 LS1/LS6 kits are too restrictive for the 2.8?

The mustang kits now have 1700/1800 cfm inlets to help reduce friction inside the 2.8 blower when the the smallest pulleys are used for max horsepower.

One thing is you're feeding compressed air directly from the blower to your heads. Nowhere for the pressure to go, so heat will increase. If you're running an intercooled setup or methanol injection, it might help some...

O.k. there is a pro touring 1st Gen. Camaro with a KB 2.8H that was over 1000 to the rear wheels. Jeff put down 850 at 18 psi I do believe and is now working on his next Kenne Bell setup which should be even better. We are hoping mine will get in the 900 rwhp range at full tilt.
