Default Moroso p/n 20185 oil pan and Kooks headers?

I need to buy a new oil pan as the stock pan has cracked and a new stock pan won't fit with the 3.75 stroke of my 383 without clearancing...I can get a new Moroso LT1 pan #20185 from a member here...Does anyone know if the Moroso pan will clear Kooks headers? I had heard that the Canton pan had fitment issues with those headers. Just checking before I spend the money on the Moroso. Thanks everyone...

I can't speak for the header clearance but I did have that pan. It was pretty trick. Windage screen, 3 trap doors, bung for oil temp sensor, crank scraper, etc. I loved it.

It got a bunch of holes in it now.

If you do a search on cz28.com, there are several threads on this. From what I remember, both pans will fit with Kooks long tubes. I think the one thing common between both pans is that you loose the low oil level sensor. I have a Canton 242-T sittin in my garage to maybe go on this winter, and I'm running Kooks LT's.

I should have mentioned this. The Moroso does have a bung for the low oil level sensor, but when I went to put mine in, there is a hole drilled inside a baffle inside the pan for it go extend through into the main compartment. This hole was drilled a little bit off so my low oil sensor would not go in.

Thanks everyone...My stock oil pan developed a crack after 13 years and I didnt know why...I called LPE and verified that I could replace the stock pan with another stock pan with zero clearancing needed on my 383 that they built...Bought new pan from GM and had it installed and low and behold the crank hits the pan!!! And it looks like the original pan was clearanced years ago which weakened the metal causing the crack!!! So I needed a good aftermarket replacement and Theres a member here selling a Moroso F body LT1 pan with a new pump and the pick up for a good price...Just checking before I tear into this again...

I ran an Eagle crank and rods and mine required no clearanceing.

i tried the moroso and canton and the crank never hit. had to clearance the scraper though with the pro gram splayed caps. im now running the canton pan and the only problem with the low oil level sensor(other than not being able to run it) is the plug they use which hit my primary. just cut all but 1/4 inch off the head and its fine now. another thing with the moroso is they dont offer a 3/4 pump pickup that will work with that pan, you would have to run a 5/8. imo, canton is a much better piece.

I ran a M select pump and had to make my own pickup.

Well we are still working at putting it in..Had to make a few mods...The stock pan and subsequent windage tray that was held in place with 3 main cap extended studs had to be replaced with main cap bolts....The trans lines got in the way and we switched to -6 braided lines, and the low oil sensor wont clear Kooks stepped 1 3/4-1 7/8 headers so we have to make a plug for it...It looks like a nice piece and I got it with a Melling 55 HV pump and Moroso pick up...So far its a lot of little tweaks and mods needed to make this work...Welcome to the aftermarket...

I would have gone with the mellings select pump vs the 55 hv, the new casting cracks sometimes and alot of people were not happy with the pump. The Select has a bigger casting and billet gears, i have it in my car because mellings suggested i go with it due to poly or solid motor mounts..i have poly.

I have the Moroso 20185 oil pan with Kooks headers and they fit perfectly. But you'll have to plug the oil level sensor (Canton has the 20mm plug). Also, I'm running a 396 w/ the 3.875" crank and no internal clearance issues.

Here is a photo. This is my old pan painted black, but my new Moroso pan I recently order from Jeg's (new engine build) is cadium plated and looks super nice!

Yep mine looks the same as yours above^^^^^...We had to plug the sensor hole, too...The only reason I went with the HV pump was that it came with the pan and pick up as a package and everything was brand new...for $210 from a board member...Its in the car now and looks great...We'll see how it goes tomorrow when we run the new braided trans lines...I would think that the pump is at least better than the stock pump and pick up we took out the LPE apparently used...
