Mobil 1 Synthetic Dexron VI in my 2008 Impala SS? Gentlemen,
I have been debating putting Mobil 1 Synthetic Dexron VI in my 08 Impala SS. I just wanted to know if that is a worthwhile endeavor and whether or not there is something better out there in the Synthetic Transmission Fluid realm. Also, how much tranny fluid do I need for a complete flush, and where can I order the fluid and filter on-line?

Officially Dex 6 is not marketed as a full synthetic. It does have long lasting properties and we believe is at least a semi-synthetic. I work at a GM dealership and even GM won't really tell you what it is. I would stay with the factory stuff as I don't think the expense would be worthwhile.

I was told by the guy that supplies fluids at our dealership that VI is full synthetic, the previos was a blend. I only asked because when I had my shift kit installed in my Impala the tech did not put dexron VI in to top it off, and it called for VI. I called our supplier and asked what the diff was and he said that the VI was fully synthetic and he would give me the VI to flush my trans with since the older was a blend and shouldn't be mixed.

About a year ago I had a chat with an engineer from exxon mobil and I was questioning this because at the time the mobil syn/ ATF did not meet the requirements we needed for our trannies. In the conservation it was said that they make and supply in bulk to GM. The engineer told me what to use and where to get it in the USA. I`m in Canada and was already aware of some mobil products (oil Filters which I have used since day one) that were unavilable to consumers up here. I have been using Mobil 1 Synthetic Dexron VI in my transmission for over 30,000 kilometers with factory filter and it has been flawless! Actually my mileage even went up, last highway trip was 753 kilometers/468 miles @120 kph/ 75 mph on 3/4 tank of 91 oct.and 4 adults onboard.
