Default Magnaflow vs other mufflers

I'm sure it has been talked about before but just contimplating on buying the magnaflow catback but want to know if it's worth the money or if I could get the same results with flowmaster universals and deleting the resenator for alot cheaper.

MagnaFlow quality is superb, I debated about going with the MagnaFlow or SLP catback. I wanted something throaty when I got on it but quiet when I was cruising. All with no raspy noise when you let off the go peddle. That's the main reason I didn't go SLP, I've heard them before and they are a little louder than I wanted. I also thought about going with just mufflers to keep the cost down a bit. I ultimately decided against that, mainly because I didn't want the connections to rust. Plus the MagnaFlow is all 2.5" mandrel bent tubing. I also got a pretty good deal - think, I paid $540.60 delivered from wundercarparts.com they provided excellent customer service and extremely fast shipping, I got the exhaust 2 days after I ordered, I placed my order at like 9 PM and the box arrived by 11 AM two days later! Now that's fast! Hope this helped, and good luck with your decision.

You could get unuversal magnaflow mufflers and delete the resonator also. This would also save you $$. Remember, the quickest all motor ls4 had the stock cat back. So, just get on you tube and find a good sounding muffler and get a couple and replace the stock mufflers with them and delete the resonator.

I think that the Magnaflow kit is a good compromise between good sound without resonance/drone. From the very few LS4's I've heard, I've yet to hear another setup without at least some drone.. but I still think most of that is due to the DoD mode.

Just as long as its off set in center out it will fit, although you might need more tail pipe for the tips to be in the right position.

yeah, as long as it's still 2.25" offset in and center out, it will fit...

and yeah, you will need extra tail pipe welded on for the tips to be brought out to the cutouts in the rear fascia... needed to do that with the super 40's too...

If I had to do it all over again, I would seriously consider installing this muffler in place of the resonator and eliminating the rear mufflers.

I went with the Magnaflow's because the cat-back was designed especially for our cars and it was pretty easy to install (no welding, cutting, etc.). If i wanted a more custom exhaust then you have more choices with Flowmaster and go from there. And I agree with LS4Speed, i got my Mag from wundercarparts, picked it up for $476 at one of their warehouse locations, good people there.

I was told by someone that Magnaflow does not allow vendors to advertise below their suggested price, i dont know if thats true or not but instead of just ordering i would recommend calling and seeing if they have a better price then the advertised one. I emailed a few places and found it for $476 at wundercarparts...email or call them if you're interested (mention Chris) and i'm sure they'll be able to work out a price comparable to mine, but keep in mind I picked mine up and didn't have it shipped.

Call and ask for Brad, I actually spoke to him at home with his kids screaming in the back ground! He was awesome to work with. Ask him for his best price, all he can say is no.

Cool guys, I appreciate the info! Can't quite afford the cat-back right now anyways, but I bookmarked this page so when I can, I'll get in touch with the right people.

The exhaust i had on my GXP was a 3" with a Bagnaflow straight through on the straight section of pipe y'ed into dual 2.5" pipes back into Borla tips. Odd as it might seem, the Borla tips made a world of difference in the volume. I had the stock tips on this setup for a while and it was rather mellow, although more aggressive and louder than the Magnaflow catback. I added the new tips and it all came to life (the Borla tips having a 2.5" inlet). I've heard the magnaflow catback in person and it just kinda sounded weaksauce to me so i went custom. I had the whole thing done for under $600. Heres a link to a vid.

EDIT: Also consider i had the K&N intake and the car was tuned as well.
