Default had a little problem with the GXP tonight

car has been running great lately. even whooped up on a not so stock 91 vette today. fast forward to tonight about 1:30 am. I'm hungry and decide to run into Del Taco, driving down the highway all of the sudden the car starts running funny and the stability light comes on, then the traction control light comes on... ok thats weird.. then power steering is gone. as i pull the car to the side of the road there is black smoke pouring out from under the hood. grab flashlight and phone and get out of the car.. call 911 and as the police arrive the front end is totally engulfed in flames. by the time the fire truck arrives the interior is involved. car is toasted, all aluminum in engine compartment including cradle is melted. all the plastic is in a puddle on the road. car is still under 3-36 bumper to bumper warranty. wonder what if anything GM will do about it.

I bet he will be able to recap his losses from GM if it goes that far.

Edit: did you get the recall letter yet? If so has it been completed?

have not received a recall letter but i don't live in a cold climate area. good luck finding a usd G8 around here. I do have lease-loan coverage and i hope that is the same as gap insurance. the engine compartment is soi badly burnt i don't know how they would ever determine what the cause was.

Power steering hose leak is a common issue with the LS4's mine was replaced at 5K miles when it blew. Other members also have had this issue and I believe one members car also caught fire. Do a recall search, it should be there.

I just ran a search on nhtsa.gov the only thing I found for an 2008 GP was for a 3.9L engine, it was a TSB to add a tywrap to the power steering hose. Don't know what else to tell ya. Sorry.

what you see in this picture is the front bumper cover, grill, headlights, radiator, driving lights, wiring pretty much everything forward of the radiator. the engine was a big gooy melted mess. what i buy to replace it with will be determined by how GM treats me on this deal.. treat me right and i'll buy an SS camaro. screw me and it's 2010 challenger RT 6 speed

Wow that's insane.

I'm sure a few others here would just love to have theirs burn up.

Good thing is that you're okay.

Might I ask what is going to happen to the vehicle? There are a few things I'd maybe like to pick up from the rear.

I am glad that you are OK. My car went into the shop just last week for a leak in the power steering line.

Did you notice any smells or issues days or weeks prior to the fire?

It is wrong that there's a voice in my head that says I should just let it burn?
