Default remote start + heated seats?

So I was just thinking with winter approaching us, has anybody figured out a way to get the heated seats to come on with the remote start?

I would like to know this also. I am guessing no. My buddies new Silverado can do it, not sure why ours cannot.

Thought it did that if the outside temp was below a certain point. Maybe just the defogger. Possibly could wire the trigger for that to one or both of the seats.

The following information is from GM's service manuals.
Only the 2006 Monte Carlo commands the heated seats (among other things) on if the conditions warrant it...

The remote vehicle starting feature allows engine starting from outside of the vehicle from a distance of up to 195 feet (60 m). It also activates the vehicles automatic climate control system, if equipped. If moderate or warmer outside temperatures exist, the climate control system will default to automatic temperature control and fan speed to regulate and maintain a moderate inside temperature. When the outside temperature is cold, the climate control system will start up the rear window defogger and default to the front windshield defrost mode with the heat on and the fan blower set to high. If the vehicle has heated seats, they will also turn on. Cooled seats, if equipped, are not activated during a remote start. Normal operation of the climate control system will return after the key is turned to RUN.

2007 Monte Carlo, Impala and Grand Prix description and operation:

The remote vehicle start (RVS) function allows engine starting while not in the vehicle. It also allows the vehicle HVAC system and other vehicle systems to enable, providing a comfortable vehicle upon entry. RVS functions have an operating range of up to 195 feet, depending on conditions. The RVS sequence begins by pressing and releasing the lock button and then pressing and holding the RVS buttons on the keyless entry transmitter. The turn signal lamps will illuminate to indicate the vehicle has received the remote start request. Each time an RVS is performed, the vehicle doors are locked, however they may then be unlocked/locked with the transmitter or vehicle key at any time. Once activated, the engine is allowed to run for 10 minutes. The RVS time may be extended by an additional 10 minute by again pressing and releasing the lock button and then pressing and holding the RVS buttons on the transmitter. This feature is called a RVS continue and allows a maximum of 20 minutes of engine running. If the RVS continue is performed at 7 minutes into the initial 10 minute time-out, a total of 17 minutes of engine running would occur. The RVS event may be suspended at any time by pressing only the RVS button on the transmitter or by entering the vehicle and turning ON the hazard lamps.

Buick Allure:

The Remote Vehicle Start function allows the customer to start the vehicle while not in the car. It also allows starting up the vehicle heating or air conditioning system and other vehicle systems to provide the customer with a comfortable vehicle when they enter it. The distance the customer can be away from the vehicle and operate this feature has a design requirement of 150 meters. The Remote Vehicle Start feature is started by the customer pressing and releasing the lock button and then pressing and holding the remote vehicle start (RVS) buttons on their key fob. The turn signal lamps will flash if this feedback is enabled on to indicate the vehicle has received the Remote Start Request. Each time the customer does a remote vehicle start, the vehicle doors are locked, however they may then be unlocked/locked with the key fob or key at anytime. Once the vehicle has been started, there is visible feedback. There are vehicle conditions which will prevent a remote start, for example if the hood is not closed or the key is in the ignition. The Remote Vehicle Start feature once activated is allowed to run for 10 minutes. At any time during this 10 minute time the 10 minute time-out can be reset once. This feature is called a Remote Vehicle Start Continue. This allows a maximum of 20 minutes of engine running via the Remote Vehicle Start feature without a reset. If the Remote Vehicle Start Continue is done at 7 minutes into the initial 10 minute time-out, a total of 17 minutes of engine running would occur. A remote vehicle start, once active, can be stopped by pressing a dedicated RVS button on the key fob or by pressing the Vehicle Hazard switch located inside the vehicle . the following will also abort a remote start, using an invalid passkey , force rotating the ignition, force shifting out of park. Remote start will also be stopped if any DTCs that turn ON the SES/MIL are stored in history or current status.

yep, same here... the heated seats are NOT activated with remote start... you have to physically push the button to turn them on...

that service manual must have been written before things were finalized, heh...

BUT... if you don't have the latest GM programming in your ecm, the heated seats will automatically turn off on ya!!!

if you sit in the seat... turn on the heated seat... then get out... then get back in and sit in the seat, the heater turns off... hehe... software bug...

but, if you do not get in the seat, and just reach over and turn on the heated seats... and THEN you sit down... it does not shut off...

undocumented feature... hahaha

Turn it to heat when you get out of the car?

Maybe the GXP is different, I just set it to 90, back when mine worked.

I'd thought about trying this for a while and after a month of bitter cold
it warmed up to 20*F or -7*C so I went for it...

Briefly how it works.
When it is cold enough, rear defog is turned on with the remote start.
Heated seats are turned on by the BCM issuing a (+) to the heated seat
relay. This mod connects the (+) of rear defog power to the heated seat
relay wire from the BCM. A relay energized by the presence of RAP is added
so that this connection isn't possible under 'normal' operation.

Considerations.
- The (+) power to the rear defog is a high current 10ga wire. The connector
to spice this one wire should be a proper sized yellow 10-12ga so the
existing wire doesn't get cut. Since the tapping wire will be a small ga
wire, it should be fused (1 or 3 amp) right away to limit the current that
can flow through it.
- The added relay (triggered by RAP which comes on when the key is turned)
serves a couple of functions. To kill this circuit for normal operation,
otherwise there will be unregulated seat heating whenever the rear defog is
turned on. Also there is a chance the BCM and/or fuses will blow when the
heated seat is turned on normally as the large currrent draw of the defog
grid may very well act like a full ground. As an extra measure, a diode is
added to block this backfeed.
- Will the seat get too hot? Under normal operation, the heat is regulated
by seat temperature sensing but this mod by-passes it and will be full on
for the entire remote start session. I'd say a totally cold car at 20*F
or -7*C, there is no concern to run full heat for 10-20 mins. I haven't
enough experiences to have an idea of the temperature at which the car turns
on rear defog with remote start.
- Extras. I added a SPDT toggle switch with center off to switch between
driver seat only; off; and both seats heated with remote start. Also I added
an indicator light.
- Wiring. All related wires are directly accessable through the side
openings without any further dissembly. From the driver side, the seat heat
wires are on the BCM connector C2: pin 40 PUrple (left) for driver seat (+)
control; pin 29 TN/WH tan/white stripe (right) for pass seat. At the pass
side lower connector at fuse block: pin F11 BK/D-GN black/dark green upper
right fattest wire for rear defog (+) power; any of the 3 upper left pins
F1,F2,E2 yellow for RAP (+); and either of the A4 BK/WH bottom mid-right for
ground.
- Simplest installation. Do it with just the relay+fuse and connect to the
driver seat wire. Pull the fuse for no heated seats with remote start.
