Factory Navigation Update
Just finished the install of the factory nav into my monte carlo SS. Works great no problems at all only difference is an increase in the volume of the chimes, which I can deal with but other than that every thing works perfectly. I purchased it off ebay from audio dude who was able to program the radio with my vin # and the build codes from my vehicle. Here are a few pictures. Sorry about all the finger prints.

The install was easy, practically plug and play i actually had to run the the gps wire up the a-pillar to the sun roof where it sits at the edge of the headliner just so that it gets a signal through the sun roof glass, thats just for right now im probably going to move it (maybe, maybe not). I put it by the sunroof just because i didn't want it to just sit on the dash (kinda tacky). I paid $800 That included the vss wire harness, navigation disc, the nav, and the directions. The one i bought is the one that does not play DVDs. And the sticker on the side of it says it came out of a 2006 Buick, still has the green back lighting. I'm satisfied overall. The price may seem high but considering the fact that i may have to go to the dealership and have it program played a part in my decision. I was told by the seller (audiodude) he said "there are differences in the nav units. All of the units have the same core then they are programmed at Denso (the factory) this creates a unique part # so it is hit and miss with using a tech 2. We have a Denso programmer that can create the correct part # for your car by using the build codes and vin # of your car so everything will work correctly (chimes, type of bose sys, blinkers,xm,steering wheel cont, backup cam.ect)."
Overall I'm satisfied

Same with the Impala's, but where there's a will (and a little $$), there's a way!

That looks awesome and is a nice unit, so not trying to be negative. But an aftermarket touch screen unit like that is very comparable in price, and has better functions. Just wondering the pro's and con's and why you decided on a factory unit.
Thanks

My Kenwood DVD Navi unit only cost me $700 bucks installed and I have Ipod video connection, DVD, Satellite, Blue Tooth, Xbox/PS3 capabilities, extra monitor capabilities and MUCH, MUCH more. I am not trying to say that you made a bad choice or anything, but you could have gotten more for less. Every person has their needs and if that is what makes you happy, then that is great! For my personal needs, I just thought that the route that I took gave me more options for less in the end.

The factory/OEM look is a huge factor for a lot of people when it comes to going OEM or aftermarket.
The Denso unit in the C6 Corvette and the Grand Prix GXP has a lot of features. It's just that its GUI isn't very user friendly. In fact it's rather ugly.
It's the turn by turn directions displayed on the HUD (along with radio stations and songs) which tends to stray people from changing it out.
Trust me, it's a feature you don't want to lose.
