Default Question for those who upgraded their trannys

I blew my tranny a few months ago and have yet to replace it. For those that did get it built up and put 3.29 gears in, did you notice any big gains or difference?

YES! You'll love them. You'll shed .2 - .3 tenths off of your 1/4 mile time with them. Quicker acceleration compared to the 2.93's. Gas milage will suffer about 2 miles per gallon too. These are the best ones for streetability and the track. IMO 3.69's are too much unless we had a 5 sp. or 6sp. auto. You'll be happy with them SM.

I have the TEP-modded valvebody, tight 2-3 clutchpack, and TransGo shift-kit in a remanufactured GM trans. Best mod I ever did. Car was totally transformed.

Just changing to 3.29's is not going to make the shifts quicker unless you tighten the clutchpacks. You'll still need a shift kit and / or up the trans. line pressure. I have a TransGo shift kit, higher trans. line pressure and tighter clutchpacks and it shifts real quick. Can easily chirp second without too much throttle. lol.... Have to agree with LS1, car was totally transformed.

I already chirp second. But i am doing a complete upgrade on it including clutches and gears. I am going to use TEP. I just hope it chops off at least .2 off my 1/4

Great upgrade! Be ready to feel the shifts! Remember...the tranny needs to be tuned as well to insure proper performance and life...it wont shift that hard out of the box so to speak...forced motor current sucks downshifting manually!!! Just fyi...if its set high...will throw you toward the windshield...not the best thing in the world though...

For NA guys...def. go with the 329s...If your a higher stall and doing FI...Go with tehe 293s...You want to avoid 4th gear at the track if you can, and 293s wont make it out of 3rd down the track...some 329s and especially 369s could or do...but the 293's will make it stall and load like a dream!! that is in my case...and you can do 90mph at 2000rpm LMAO!!!

Another reason I went with 293 over 329 was off of the pure recomendation of Dave at TEP...just due to potential power levels of my car on 329s would probably snap the chain for sure...so this helps my tranny live a bit...I NEED A GM RACING 1" CHAIN....BUT THIS IS WHAT WILL HAVE TO DO FOR NOW...Guys that have them for sale right now want around $2,000.00!!!!!!!!! USED!!!!! just due to them being so rare

If you did nothing else to the car, you'd like the 3.29s. With everything else you've done, you'll really love the 3.29s. They make a huge difference stock. You'll really notice the extra pickup in 2nd and 3rd gear. You get 12.3% more torque at the wheels in every gear.

I'm not saying that my results would hold true for everyone, but I got a little better mileage with just the LS6 intake and 3.29s than I did stock. Just cruising, I got better mileage in the 50-70 mph range because I could hold DOD much better. Without DOD you will likely lose mileage everywhere. With my cam returned to the old installed centerline and DOD still operational, I think I could have gotten away with 3.69s, but not now.

If you normally cruise at 2000 RPM you'll now cruise at 2245 RPM. I'm usually between 2200 RPM and 2400 RPM.

Edit: Here are my original impressions on the TEP transmission. I had not done anything else to the car at the time.
