Thorough Brake Job with Painting
I did my brakes a couple weeks ago but haven't had the time to post it. Basically I was getting a mild squeal, the rotors were rusting from this past winter, and the caliper paint was chipping on the front (where the casting ridge is). So I decided to do all four rotors, pads and repaint the calipers (and caliper brackets).
BEFORE:
Basically behind the wheels was making the rest of the car look terrible.
I started out buying rotors and ceramic pads locally. I painted the rotors and brackets with a black caliper paint. There was a lot of taping off involved with the rotors. Painting the rotors was easily the most time consuming task.
While painting the rotors, I pulled and painted the caliper brackets.
I wasn't exact in taping off the braking surface since any little bit that is uneven will be taken off by braking.
I grind-ed down the casting ridges on the front rotors before painting them.
If I can offer any advice to anyone, it would be not to buy the caliper painting kit and just buy the spray caliper paint. The paint in the duplicolor kit is brush on and it was incredibly difficult to achieve a smooth finish on our already smoothed calipers. I imagine the brush on would be good for a rough, unpainted caliper. Spray is definitely the way to go on our PBRs.
I made a stencil to repaint the GXP emblem:
Anyways here it is:
It did not come out exactly how I wanted but in the end, the car does look 100% better! Sorry for the low quality photos, only my phone was handy.

I'd be willing to take that image file and get a custom stencil made that we could swap around to permanently fix our calipers once and for all.

Lol nice.
Do you have any closeup pictures of your calipers after respraying the logo onto it?
Also, would anyone be interested in getting in on this [laser cut] stencil? I have a quote and I'm just waiting to pull the trigger.
