Default Transmission?

Well I hoped it wouldn't happen to me....

4th gear started to do that thing where it feels like a misfire for about two days and now it started whining and making a cshhhhhhhh sound. Also fluid went to a brownish color. Should I try adding fluid if it is about a quarter inch over 'Add' after driving it?

I'm screwed aren't I...

Doesn't sound promising. Don't add more fluid id it isn't low. Is it misfiring or shuddering when the TC is locked?

The engine is running perfectly. I just wanted to kind of convey the feeling of what it does. Feels just like a misfire but its not. It's the tranny.

The whine is usually either the converter or the front pump.

It doesn't sound promising, though.

Interesting, I was sitting at a gas station today just idling and my car made this hiteous whining/screeching noise from the engine bay. The car was in park and was warmed up. And I am experiencing the same issues you are as well, mine is going to the dealership tomorrow to see what is up with it.

But it sounds like the transmission is the problem.

Yeah from my past dealings, my dealership wont address any whining or misfire like symptoms. Guess I am just going to have to wait until the tranny goes completely for them to fix it, hopefully it will be sometime soon, so I can say I told you so...

Well it officially will not stay in gear. Only when I got it to 60-65mph would it stay in gear. Could it be only the pump or is that still uber expensive?

If the pump goes everything gets smoked.

Just to clarify, I said the pump is likely to be causing the whine you hear. It may or may not be the cause of your problems with staying in gear.

Anyway, your trans needs a rebuild.

I figured as much, but something in me was still clinging to hope, LOL.

It's now parked. I don't want to look at it for a few days.

Thanks guys.

What could cause the trans pump to only work directly after starting the engine?

A stock rebuild up here costs 1900 plus 600 for removal and installation. So about 2800 after fluid and tax.

If I didn't do engine mods and trans mods, I could have bought LS1racing's Buick and had an 11sec car! (I think this might become my new sig.)

Like I said, you're not going to know what it is until you get it apart. It may not have anything to do with the pump.

And now the Buick is sold.

The most common reason that happens is that the filter is picking up excessive amounts of clutch material and misc debris from the bottom of he pan and is become so clogged that fluid cannot pass through it.

And if that is the case changing the fluid and filter will do no good as the internal damage is done unfortunately. It would be a waste of time and money to just service it at this point.

Hope that takes a little mystery out of it for ya.
