Default LS1 in an 05 Impala SS?

I am totally new to the Chevrolet world.
I have owned many cars.. 64.5 Mustang to a 05 Civic Si, IS300, 325i and a few boosted/swapped Hondas. I now own a 2005 Impala SS, what engine swaps can be put into this car?
Just curious, any help would be awesome.

Thanks!

It never made it to production.

L67 is the best motor you'll get in an 05 Impala. LS1 was never offered stock in any FWD application.

A LOT of work was involved. It's still being finished as I type this.

That was a custom CNC machined aluminum block, designed with the bolt pattern of the 4t65e-hd. No other production LS block will bolt up to our transmissions due to that pattern difference, without an adapter plate. Even then, you'll throw off the measurements for our transmission mounted starter (and the engine/trans assembly in the cradle, itself).

Not that the 409 monte carlo isn't sick, but for the money spent on that, that guy could have easily bought a z06.

If you want THAT much more out of your LS4 (to the point you are pondering an engine swap), the most economical options are the turbo kit, or just buying a different car.

LOL! Just realized the year of the Impala is 2005. The LS4 should fit in there. It was done with a Monte Carlo and they are VERY similar in the engine department.

Good luck with whatever route you choose.
