There are a few posts on here and on gmls4.com about this. I'm too lazy to go searching for them but they are here and with pics.

When I did my trans I removed the motor and trans as one from the top,I didn't want to drop the cradle. It was pretty easy and took only the wknd to do.

thats the post i created becuase i couldnt find one either.

not sure about pulling it from the top, but the bottom was a big old pain in the ***... plus you have to get an alignment.

edit
actually alot of the stuff that i found to be a pain would still have to be done pulling it from the top.

Another important tip that will save you time is unbolting the rack from the subframe before you drop it with the trans. Use bungee cords for the tie rod ends and connect them some where you can to hold it snug against the body that way you don't have to **** with getting the shaft back in on reassembly. Also I just left the strut and knuckle connected anddisconnected the ball joint at the control arm point so I wouldn't need an alignment after wards.

I don't see how you see the top as easier when you have to remove all that **** to pull both motor and trans just to swap the transmission.

Thanks for all the pics but holy crap that looks like a lot of work to yank the motor. Beyond the capabilities of me and the space of my garage. Did you have to change your lower motor mount when it was out? If I pulled my motor id be putting in a new cam.

To each there ownWhen you have the space, tools and time a lot can be accomplished .Plus spendind a 1000 on tires and alignment the month before and dropping 3500 for the trans i didnt feel the need to get another alignment.Either way you look at it still gonna be a PITA from the top or the bottom for a person doing this there first time.OP yes I replaced the lower front mount as my was destroyed.
