4l65E-HD Compatibility across platform?
Quick question,
Can you use a Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS, or Super transmission to replace a GXP transmission? I remember reading a while back that the TAPshift would work if you use another transmission? or perhaps it was the engine?
Can anyone confirm compatibility?

1. Go to TEP and have it rebuilt @ $1875 + Shipping + 4-5 Week current wait time.
2. Buy the stage two parts from Maddogtransmissions $600 and have somone local do it. Or buy TEP Parts @ $900 and do that same. http://shop.tripleedgeperformance.co...65E-CK03HP.htm
3. Buy a used low mileage transmission and cross my fingers. $1000

Personally, as much as he has been used and proven, rebuilding the trans without parts from TEP seems like shooting craps. TEP is proven. I could see getting the TEP parts and having someone local do it, but again, I think it is silly to go down an unbeaten path when the paved sidewalk is right there.

I don't get how the transmissions aren't cross compatible if you're taking the ****** all the way apart all your doing is swapping over the old harness valve body etc to the new one structurally there are no differences. Added TCM connector end views first two are for a 06 second set. Is for 08

Just to add here: the PONTIAC 05-06 are the same for sure, for the 08 yes it is different as to the INTERNAL MODE switch is different and has 1 extra wire (but unsure of the connector at this time) How and if this affects the 07 4t65e-hd I am searching and will post up as info and time comes available.
One other note the 08 has a different Throttle body than previous years also.

Ok just verified the 07/08 have an extra pin/wire which means they both have a different internal mode switch than the 05/06 transmissions.
The wire is ORG/BLK from the internal mode switch (inside the trans) to the ECM. It is for the Park/ Neutral safety switch.
I cannot find at this time, whether or not the internal mode switch assemblies can be swapped or not . Maybe contact Dave @TEP.

"All GXP transmissions interchange no problem. Year ranges are 2005-2008. In 2005 (even late 2004) The internal wire harness and IMS switch added one extra wire- the orange/black wire you mentioned which is used to detect Park and Neutral ranges. I have not seen any LS4 transmission without this. The easiest way to tell- the case connector on the transmission will be Black in color, all earlier styles are Gray in color."

I had my tranny built by TEP at 18k, and it shifts the same at 96k. I beat on it, shifting at 7000rpm with over 400 HP. I'd go with the known quantity myself, but I've heard of other people having success with local builders. You really just need someone who knows how to build reliable street/strip transmissions and some experience with the 4T65.
