Default Oil pan gasket q? Changing out oil pump?

I was changing the transmission and decided to do the rear main seal too. Then I noticed the pan gasket leaking in the area right below the housing for the rear main seal towards the bottom of pan

First, this is the location of the leak. Is this the oil pan gasket or another gasket? It is not the rear main seal that is leaking, the arrow points to the exact location of the leak.

Next, I have been told to change the oil pump and oil pump driveshaft. I have a motor with stock internals, no cam or anything, a few bolt ons. I want to go with either this
10552 or 10554 from Melling
and this...

So what do you think?

unless you have an aftermarket pan do not go with the high volume pump. I was going to go with it, but my engine builder caught me in time and told me that I would suck the oil pan dry. go with the high pressure standard volume pump

oh, and that is the oil pan gasget, I am pretty sure mine is leaking from the same spot, but I haven't had a free minute to get under there and check. Did you try torqing down the oil pan bolts to solve your leak?

Sounds good. No the gasket is sort of broken down there. There's a crack and it isn't sealing properly. So which pump should I get, any recommendations?

Melling high-pressure Oil Pump, the high-volume will suck the Pan dry..

What makes that motor in the photo you "borrowed" so disgusting?

Is it yours? LMFAO. It looks too damn close to hot pink. I know it's supposed to be red and that's the flash, but damn. I just hate the paint job. I wouldn't have painted over the bolts or the gasket or anything like that. It looks like ****.

Yes that's my motor and it's my favorite motor. It's the 350LT1 that is in my signature. You just insulted the little guy and he's going to be on the lookout for your oil leaking fbody.

You can link to my photos in my web pages and state the source but please do not take the photo from my web pages and load them up elsewhere and then link to that.

Sorry to hear you don't like POR15 red. Painting over bolts keeps them from rusting and where I live rust is a big concern.

For your oil pan gasket leak you might consider smearing RTV in that area after a good cleaning with brake-clean. That may fix the leak totally or at least reduce the leak.

I found it on google. Now that it's served it's purpose (my camera is broken) I'll take it down.

This "leak" only occurs when I move the oil pan gasket around. Preventative maintenance. There was nothing in the torque converter cover.

Don't take pics that make that **** look pink. You got Hello Kitty on the hood? ROFFLBERRYPWNCAKES I can't believe I found the owner of that motor. Funny as ****.
I don't have to worry about rust, I live in GA. All I have to worry about is rednecks stealing my parts.

Catch me a year later (jsut got out of school) and I'll take you up on that race.

So what is the difference between 10552 or 10554 from Melling?

Check out the Melling M55A. that is the pump that was recommended to me, it is a standard volume so it won't suck the pan dry, but it is also a high pressure to allow for better lubrication. my oil pressure sits right up at 50-60 psi when under load and warmed up.

Seems to me the best way to go would be to get a high volume pump, but then get a larger oil pan as well.

^^Not necessarily.. the High-Pressures work really well.

The high volume pump works even better. Niether is necessary, but the high volume is better than the high pressure.

I got the Melling 10554 with the white spring to make it a high pressure pump, metal coupler driveshaft and pickup. So I'll put it all in this weekend, along with my oil pan gasket, rear main seal, and finally, my transmission.

i've been reading about how that was an inferior unit due to the thinner casting.

thank you for reminding me, I completely forgot, but I actually have the M55 with the high pressure spring. Melling recently started going cheap on these pumps, but I got lucky and got an older style that is much stronger. nice catch!
