95 TA with 97 TA motor question & emssions?
Alright..Make a long story short I wrecked my 97 trans am.. purchased a 95 Trans am to stuff my old motor in. Figured I better get some projects done this winter.
I have the computer from the 97.. will it fire right up being that its a 95 car? Or will I have to get the Vin and all that crap on the computer changed to the Vin on the car. I know some other cars are very picky about this(grand prixs and bonnevilles)
And What is all the emissions that I can take off before putting that motor back in? And is it possible to get some pictures of them and how to plug stuff? Im not really an lt1 person. but i want to learn. And I am not worried about SES lights

I think you will run into problems with the wiring harness. It will be going from a OBD1 system to a OBD2. I just got done putting a 96 motor, trans, harness, and pcm in a 95. I ended up having to swap out the interior harness too because the plugs for the bcm were differant. You will probably have the same problems because I think that the 96 and 97 harness is the same. I think that you may get by with just changing out the timing setup though? I know that the 96 and 97 had the cam sensor built ino the iming cover. One more thing is that the manifolds and exhaust is differant. The 96 and 97 have a flat flange and the 95 has a ball and flange setup. As far as he emissions you can buy block off plates to remove the egr system and you can find plugs for the air system pretty cheap too. If you have any other questions just let me know.

As far as the harness goes... i left it all on the motor itself. Am really not sure what else there is to take out.. i left the whole exhaust bolted right up to the motor, minus cat back. how big of a pain is it to get the other harness out of the car? I mean is it go threw the whole dash take it all out replace it? Im not sure about any of the harness crap
And it is a 6spd if that matters

Yup, you'll need the 96+ harness as you have several things on the 97 PCM that are not on the 95 motor. For example, as said earlier a crank position sensor in the timing cover, 4 O2's (2 before and 2 after the CAT), etc... Shouldn't be that hard to find one if the one from your old car is toast and good luck.

The major difference in the 93 is it is a Speed Density car and does not use a MAF, also the injectors are batch fire and not sequential. I am not sure if the harness is the same but the comp programming is a ton different. Also, you don't want a 93 computer as they utilize the prom chips and are much more difficult and expensive to tune. Best to stick with 94 or 95 as they are the OBD1's and much easier to tune as starting 96' went to OBDII.
