Default 3.73's or 4.10's for my M6

I currently have the stock 3.42s in my car. It has gone 12.32 @ 114 and I am thinking about spraying it. With 4.10s I would top out at 123 which only gives me 9mph to go. 3.73s would give me 135 topped out. Is it worth it to change to 3.73s or should I stick with the 3.42s??

So if I pick up more than 9mph on spray I will have to shift to 5th.

I wonder why people go straight to 4.10's.. I have 3.89's for my car if I decided to switch from the 3.50's..

When I sprayed my car with 4.10's, my rev limiter was set at 6200, the shift lite would come on maybe 200 feet before the traps and I would just hold it to the boards. This was at 117 mph on a Firestone SZ50 274/40-17 tire on a small shot. I think if I would have had a taller tire I would have done alot better as far as RPM at the deep end. I think the 4.10's would wake your car up.

so 4.10s and shifting into 5th will be faster than 3.73s and staying in 4th?? I find that harder to believe.

I think you are missing the point that my car traps 114 on motor.

No. Dont shift into 5th, stay in 4th. Your engine is obvously breathing well to trap 114 on motor.

A change from 3.42's to 3.50's is extremely small; especially for the time and money it cost to do it. But if you know exactly what you need, then that's what you need.

I had 3.73's and I'm switching to 3.50's to see how the Engine pulls with them. The 3.73's acted like it was too low, on the street it would spin more than hook, then run out of top-end.

4.10's is what most people say to put in, but your case seems to be a bit more science.

For a street car i personally stick with 3.73 to 3.90 gear range. Track only is a different critter.

Exactly, if I was building a Track Warrior, I would have a totally different setup..

Sounds like you need some sticky tires bro I haven't had this issue with my 3.73's on the street at all.

I had sticky tires.. it would burn them off..lol
That's why I'm looking forward to the T56, I can petal it more and get control of it better.

But I have enough Torque and power to when I get into my power band and have traction, I'm expecting it to launch like a rocket with the 3.50's.

Even on the Track it took off hard with the 3.73's, but to me it felt like it was losing on the top-end..then again after thinking about it, the Tranny could have been slipping a little bit.

I'm wanting that hard pull in the top-end with the 3.50's though..wax them Corvettes on the highway and leave them wondering..

Get the 28" m&h racemaster drag radial(jegs has them), this will work well with 4.10's. Should put your final drive around 3.80-3.90 range.

Quick Reply: 3.73's or 4.10's for my M6
