OEM spec replacement clutch is barely enough for a bone stock LT1 IMHO. The friction material is cheap fiberglass and does not grip. It is intended to engage and release buttery smooth as a result of some slippage and will not hold more than 300 RWHP and last an acceptable amount of time.

Depends on what you are looking to do. I ran a stock replacement with a 400 rwhp motor, but I daily drove the car and didn't beat on it too much. It did wear out after a few years and not too many miles. If you are planning on clutch dumps and dragging it then I agree with the above.

I haven't had the car dynoed yet but expecting about 430rhwp. I have a stock valeo replacement that come with my 6 speed swap and let's just say it's making some noise and I have about 400 miles on it after breakin. It has 6 track passes at 3000+ launches and quite a few low mph roll racing (under 15). It won't be a very good replacement for a car making some power.

im only gunna have lt's, cai and a pcm for less pcm tune. so i dont think ill be too far over 300hp. I also plan on doing a build in the near future so it wont have to last long. Saying that, do you think it is worth spending the money on it? or should i just go bigger right away.

on a friends '96 z-28, making 360rwhp N/A and and close to 500rwhp on a shot (idk for sure, but the N/A numbers have been dynoed, and it's got an NX kit with 150shot jets???) his seems to hold up, somehow, on a GM replacement clutch.
I think the car went 11.2's launching at 5k on et drags.
I really have no idea how it's done it, but I KNOW for a fact it's a gm clutch, he blew apart a centerforce clutch he put in the car for about 50miles, while he was waiting on the replacement to be shipped, he stuck the stock piece back in, and has ran it ever since. wtf???

stock clutches can handle some good power. my cousin and i are both running stock clutches (75k+ mi) and we're both still fine. I have full bolt ons and he has a hefty cam and nitrous.

My stock one didn't last the first day that I was using slicks, with stock power. It depends on what you do with it. I'd get the stock replacement clutch from the local parts store, pitch the disc and get a GOOD disc from one of the clutch makers. (As recommended in the clutch thread). Saves money
