Default weird startup question...

so i posted a couple weeks ago about having a sputtering startup...
so i would prime the engine twice and it would start up fine, but if i dont prime it or sometimes only prime it once it sputters or something...im thinking its either the fuel pump regulator or the fuel pump...does anyone know if this is a specific problem for either or if its something else?

Have you gotten a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and checked for fuel pressure, both key-on engine-off and with the engine running?

Have you pulled the vacuum line off of the regulator and checked for fuel?

havent had a chance to yet, i was hoping maybe they were symptoms of something common...what would the pressures be with key on engine off and engine running?

Approximately 43.5psi with the KOEO. Pressure should drop a few psi with the engine running and slowly increase with throttle position.

The only way to tell is to get a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail. It's a priceless tool that every LT1 owner should have in their toolbox.

Yep- check the pressure at idle and when you drive.
Mine did the slow die-off and would look okay at idle, but would eventually shut off while driving.

Once I get the car started itn runs fine ithink it has something to do with the pressure at start up

check valve in fuel pump could be bad... that is normally the cause of quick pressure loss

all the pressures are fine, i think its actually the starter. when i let the car prime i hear something clanking under the car likes it almost the starter engaging...is this possible? it sounds like the starter gear is getting stripped or something on the flexplate

Pull the inspection/converter cover and find out.
