Default Knock sensor trouble code

I have a 95 Z28 and the service engine soon light is on so I took it to the shop and they put it on the scanner and the code that came back was knock sensor wiring harness. Not the sensor itself. So today I crawled underneath and checked to make sure the plug was in correctly to the sensor and it was. I have the ground going to an oil pan bolt so I put a test light on it and it lite up when I put the clip side on the hot wire to the starter. That means its grounding correctly right?? Does anyone have a correct wiring diagram for that area or know for sure where that ground is supposed to go? I unhooked the battery to try and reset the comp but the ses light still comes on. Any ideas or suggestions would help. Thanks

The power and ground to the start should have nothing to do with the knock sensor. I'm not sure, but I think that the knock sensor just grounds itself out to the block.

Probably not, but I'm sure that will suffice.

So what would be throwing that code than? It says knock sensor wiring harness but do you think it could be the sensor itself??

I would clean up the connector to the knock sensor and I would trace that wire all the way back to the computer and look for burns, rips, or corrosion. I'm not sure how to test it with a volt meter. Have you tried testing if for power with one clip on the connector and one clip to the block?

Test light or volt meter. I don't know if that will work or what volts it should reat, but it's worth a shot. Maybe someone else can chime in.

The ground wire that is in the loom with the starter and knock sensor wires grounds to a lug on the block. Grounding it to an oil pan bolt should accomplish the same thing.

As many times as I have personally used something from your page on top of the numerous times it gets referenced for diagnosing problems on this forum, it is an absolute wonder that a link to your page hasn't gotten a sticky yet. I say we need a sticky titled "if you need to know where _______ goes / attaches, check here first."

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but if not I am surprised.

*I officially turn this thread back over to the OP, sorry for the hijack.
