what year is your car? Ive looked at that lunati chain before but it only says 1992-1993 app so im not sure of the differences between that and 94-97? Theres a cloyes chain for 95-97 apps C-3039. Only pointing this out because I was going to get the lunati chain a while back but it only states 92-93 on summit.

93-94 fbodys use the same chain they state 92-93 because the vette and full size cars got the new cover in 94. and look at getting better rockers that are used, i picked up my crane rockers full roller cheaper then that with 7k on them. and the pump u can use a melling-select pump that is cheaper then the gm pump you listed.

I would go with full roller rockers, and since the cam is $289 you might aswell go with a custom cam or look for a cheaper one in the forsale section

Do not waste money on roller tip rockers, use a long slot stamped rocker which is cheaper or get a full roller.

You should be able to find rings for like 1/3rd that price. Honestly I don't know that I would mess with the rings atall.

I would probably just put a fresh spring in the original oilpump unless you find damage too it.

Tagging this thread because I have the same plan as the OP. Does anyone know of any dyno or track comparisons of the crane 227 vs other mild cams such as Lloyds and others.

im waiting to hear if i need new overbore pistons. if i dont what problems would i run into just replacing rings caprice? i choose the crane 227 for low end torque and im keeping the stock heads not looking to rev past factory redline. What can i do to strengthen stock rods and crank? Im thinking arp rod bolts and main studs?

The factory cam can go past factory redline if you give it good springs and rockers.

Within the very low rpm limit you have set for yourself I would not bother opening the bottomend atall.

I would not bother with main studs at this level though if you do them get it line hones.

Stock rod bolts are fine to about 6500 and are the single weakest link in the stock shortblock. The mains and crank seem fine beyond even that.

IMO a LOT of people screwup perfectly good shortblocks by thinking they need to "improve" them.

I ended up buying my cam, rockers and springs from here - http://speed-eng.com/store/ - there prices where better then anywhere else. You should be able to find piston ring kits for under $100 for the LT1 only (do not use SB chevy rings). Stock timing set from $60 and up, stock oil pump from mellings with pick-up for under $50. I ended up going local with Advanced Auto Parts and Autozone for most of the parts. You can look up the parts online to see who has the best price. Yes they do carry name parts, Sealed Power and Felpro. As for piston rings, I bought a set of EngineTech rings for $65 + shipping off the internet. They are Manley rings in a EngineTech box.
