Ls1 driveshaft
Alright i have a chance to pick up a ls1 driveshaft for my lt1 car for free. Is it a bolt on part or is the splines for the tranny diff or joints? The donor shaft is from an auto and my lt car is an auto.

My car used to have the shakes at higher speeds, so at some point I'm going to get a new driveshaft. I was considering the Lingenfelter shaft, but I looked the other day and they were 500 bucks. They've either gone up quite a bit, or I just don't remember how much they cost.

there was a thread on here about a guy that had a LS1 M6 driveshaft on his car and he twisted it in half without even having a lot of power going down. It is a nice upgrade due to the lack of vibration caused by this piece plus it is lighter but an upgraded DS will be a better bet than an actual stock LS1 DS.
Now i am by no means telling you not to do this mod or say it is not worth it i am just stating what i have been told or read. No personal experience obtained to validate these claims.

I have personally seen way too many of them snap on mild setups, on the street with crappy hooking tires.
At the track it's just a matter of time IMO.
Pay a shop to balance your stock LT1 driveshaft if it's out, and be thankful for the strength.
If you must have an aftermarket piece there is much better out there than the ls1 aluminum junk to be had...

For the weight and vibration differences. I see this as a good mod, especially since it's free.
Btw it's going on an auto with a stock converter and 245 street tires. best 60ft has been a 2.2 with 13.3 at half throttle coming out of the hole.

What are some good, affordable alternatives to the LS1 shaft? Denny's and the Lingenfelter shaft are about the only other options I've heard about. 500 bucks for the Lingenfelter just seems like a lot, but Denny's site doesn't sound like it would be cheap.

Why not have your stock unit rebalanced? It will cost around 40.00, and it's a hell of alot stronger than the ls1 shaft. If your not going to track the car alot, the ls1 shaft will work, but many have been twisted to pieces. I bought the lpe unit back when they were 260.00, 5yrs ago woot!
