Default Oh hey... stuck lifter.. yay

So anyone that had read any of my posts, i just got my car back together after sitting in a garage for 3 years. I have a stuck lifter on my drivers side, and car runs a little off, inseqeunce with the tick. Just put in some oil additive to see if i could free it but do not think ill have any luck. Im pulling valve covers tomorrow to look at things.. then maybe taking my intake off.. uggggh!! How common is this? And just would like to hear others experiences with this... Stock valvetrain by the way

every motor needs a cam. if thats the case, find a lower millage motor and swap it. dont even bother trying to fix this one.

You actually think the lifter is stuck compressed of just has some debris in it causing the tick? you might try to let the car idle with either some kerosene or transmission fluid in the oil that is a good way to clean out trash that has built up inside an engine over the years specially one with that kind of mileage. Worth a shot before you go tearing the intake and valve covers off. Worst it can cost you is an oil change which you will have to do either way. Good luck with things

Yea, i put in some JB engine treatment, i got from summit.. cant remember the actual name of it. Supposed to be used for sticky valvetrain and stuck lifters. No luck... im just pullin the valve cover to see things, not rippin the intake out yet. My buddy came over with a stethoscope and we pin pointed it, drivers side, sounds like maybe lifter or stuck valve... taking valve cover off after i finish this cup of coffee.

WOW that is loud. I'm not so sure its a lifter. Bent or misaligned pushrod is what it sounds like. You dont have to pull your intake to check those.

yea i know it was loud.. turned out to be a loose rocker arm... it is completely silent now. Also realize part of my header gasket is missing on the drivers side.. how i dont know... but im gonna re do the header gasket and see if that helps it run better
