Default Canton Oil Pans???

So when I bought this 383 the guy threw in a Canton oil pan with the purchase. Only problem is that is it JUST the pan, nothing else.

Do I need to run a different windage tray or pickup tube? If it is going to be too much of a hassle to run this I may just stick with a stock pan.

If it is a 242t then it should have the windage tray bolted in.
Be warned though, there are those who've had complaints about it's functionality.

I have a Canton on my 383 and they work good and it should have a crankscraper/windage tray integrated into it. The only complaint I have is that it's a real bit$$ to seal (been thru a couple gaskets) and it also rests a bit on the steering rack as the front is pretty deep. If I could do it all over I would have prob stuck with the stock pan or get one from another company.

PS:
You will need the canton p/u for the pump to work properly with this pan.

I used the 242T pan with no clearance or sealing issues. I ended up using the Canton 20-023 pickup with the Melling 10552 pump.

I do remember (at least awhile ago) Canton's website explaining the different pans for a SBC (maybe 3rd gen?) and the 242t was a bit confusing. I too have the 242t pan and do not have any clearance issues.

Hm....I see where the tray is supposed to bolt, but there is nothing there. Not even bolts. I may just put this thing on ebay, start it at 0.01 and just get rid of it then use the stock pan

Thanks guys.

Not an option and don't do it? At higher rpms u'll get that oil all whipped up and air bubbles in oil to bearings is a very bad idea.

I pulled out the canton windage tray and screen and put in a moroso windage tray off the main caps and now it holds 70psi to 7k. The moroso tray went back 2-3 inches more all around the sump area compared to the stock canton setup. SOTP says i gained a decent amount of power as well.

Nice man! What windage tray did you use? I may have to get some different main bolts also, the ones I have don't have studs for the windage tray.

Canton has a very good design and I hold atleast 60 PSI as well thru 6500 and it has an integrated crank scraper to shed some weight from the crank. Good design and if you gonna stick with that pan there is really no reason to reinvent the wheel - so to speak.

I'm using the 244t pan which is for a 3rd gen f-body and I removed Canton's windage tray and installed a Milodon Diamond Stripper and a Moroso rear pan baffle between the oil pump and the rear main cap and I have no issues at all. Oh and with the 244t pan I ordered a tubular K with the rack mounts dropped 1/2" to clear the pan or you can shim your motor mounts a 1/2" so the pan won't rub.
