Default just a little advise please

Hey guys, i was just given a mint 1995 jeepp grand cherokee with the 5.2 v8, and dont have to worry about gearing for the interstate anymore. My question is this, Should i do 3.73's with my m29 t56? I was thinking of 4.10's but am worried it'll just be overkill as i still drive it in down alot and the road into town is a highway, plus i dont run dr's and am more into handling than drag racing. 3.73's would put me at like 2500 at 75 right? I have 3.23's now and its killing me! Also i know that some fbodys came with 3.73's from the factory, are they super rare? should i just buy gears and have them installed, rather than look for a good 3.73 axle? It will be the first thing iv had done to my car by another mechanic, because i am a mechanic myself, but iv never done it, dont have the indicator tools, and dont want to trash some new gears. What do you think i could do in the 1/4 with my mods and those gears provided i hook?

I Pretty sure 3:42's where the largest gear that came in the f-bodys. never heard of 3:73's

Yes. 3.42 rear end gears in manual cars were the tallest.

OP, you should go with 3.73's with the M29. It will be like having 4.10's in a later year T56.

S10's have a similar axel as f bodies, and the ring and pinion are the same. They came with 3.73 and 4.10's gears that will swap into a fbody rear. Just make sure you match the gears and carriers as there are series 2 and 3 carriers. Usually a 3.42 rear has a series 3 carrier, and lower 3.08 and 2.73 gears will be a series 2. Not sure about 3.23.

3.08 lower is 2 series, higher is 3 series. 3.42 is highest fbody factory gear, s10 gears will swap over but your better off getting a new set. theres just something you dont wanna play around with and take a chance used and imo gears r one of those.

Granted they are weak, but so are fbody rears. If your have a M6 and drag slicks, a fbody rear is a crap shoot anyway with some high rpm launches. But I was offering the option of going with a higher gear ratios than what was offered at the factory that will work. I wish I had the M29 trans, but that is another thread.
