Default Carbureted LT1 Runs on LS1 PCM

Today we tested the LS1 PCM as an ignition controller with a carbureted LT1 engine. We turned the key for the first time today; the engine started on the first crank. Throttle response is excellent. We're looking forward to the installation in a vehicle and 4L60E (or 4L80E) transmission control.

Great see more and more of these conversions being done... just wish they got more affordable to the public. i would like to upgrade this or a delteq and try and not rely on the opti.

Yes, that's the prototype timing cover that will clear a double row timing chain. This engine has a Cloyes double row timing set installed with plenty of timing cover clearance.

Ugh I just sold my Cloyes DR when I read that the 24x conversion only works with single rollers .

So is the benefit of using the LSX PCM for ignition instead of a dist just the transmission control?

The GM timing cover will work with a double row timing set, but requires some cutting and welding. The crank seal area must move forward. And that could interfere with the cam sensor housing. A lot of work.

Consider what the LS1 PCM offers as an ignition controller that is not found in even the most popular ignition controllers...
- timing adjusted to coolant temp
- timing adjusted to intake air temp
- up to two knock sensor inputs
- 4L60E transmission control
- 4L80E transmission control
- two configurable VSS outputs
- high resolution crank signal (24x VS 4x flying magnets)

But it's not for every carb owner. These components pictured cost more than most ignition controllers. However, if you want a "modern" carbureted vehicle, the LS1 PCM is where it's at. For example, just an aftermarket 4L60E controller is $700 or more.

Hey:

The timing cover looks real good, I hope you make enough of them to sell them as a upgrade if someone wants it, without your kit.

not really sure the point of using the LS1 pcm to just slap a carb on it. Its like building a house and using a piece of cardboard as a front door.

How much does that coil pack kit cost?

I am heading towards carb with a 383 and want to avoid an HEI. Can the LS1 PCM still control the transmission? Will I need an LS1 F-body specific transmission?

One of the biggest benefits of using the LSX PCM on a carb setup is to control an electronic transmission.

I've got my billet timing cover ordered and paid for, so as soon as that and my custom engine harness arrive from EFI I can install my new 383. Man I can't wait to drive the car with that engine and my S60 with 4.30's.

Goodness, my fuel injected lt1 dont have that kind of throttle response, and you got that with a carb. That thing lit up like no tomarrow.

By the way, how much would a set up like that cost out of curiousity?
